DBWI: An Irish Republic

As we know today Francis I of the House of Hohenzollern (OOC: Prince Franz Wilhelm of Prussia) is the king of Ireland. What if the first Irish president Patrick Pearse had not invited Joachim of Prussia to become king and Ireland had remained a republic?

I beg to differ. As joachim of prussia converted to catholic during coronation.

Such things don't matter much these days within the United Kingdoms of Europe, since the Act of Supremacy had no relevance after the extinction of the Saxe Coburg Gotha line. I suppose if Pearse had not made that move, Ireland would have remained a backward country on the fringe of Europe, much as the Republic of Dalriada (ooc Scotland and East Ulster) is today.

Any Irish Republic would assuredly be less aligned to Germany. The implications of the lack of Germany's "Unsinkable aircraft carrier" on WWII would be interesting; it would certainly free up much of Britain's airfare.

No Irish king and there probably would not be much Bavarian immigration to Ireland. You should check out the chocolate shop in the Little Munich section of Dublin.
