Comics WI: No X-Men revival in the 70s

Let's say Marvel decides not to bring back the X-Men after all and it becomes a forgotten book, one of their rare 60s failures. How does this affect Marvel and future storylines (remember that all the characters up into the book going dormant are still around in the MU, and so is Woverine).

The Avengers will probably be made the premiere superhero team of Marvel much sooner and Beast is going to be remembered and used as an Avengers character with his history on the X-Men largely forgotten. I don’t want to comment on what the scenario means financially for Marvel because who knows really ? Maybe The Fantastic Four make the jump to film first because they’re easier to ‘get’ from a quick pitch than the Avengers,Defenders, and champions. The whole mutant thing is probably gonna be forgotten and retconned, just a goofy early Marvel idea like the space phantoms and the random giant monsters. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will still be Whizzer and Miss America instead of Magneto, Magneto himself would be used as a generic villain with magnetic powers to fight against superheroes like Iron Man. Chris Claremont and John Byrne aren’t just gonna disappear (with Byrne probably working on Superman or the fantastic four and Claremont going onto idk The Legion of Superheroes if you want to be injokey) sorry if this is rambly

Some thoughts: The Champions book could last longer, Cyclops, Jean, Banshee, and Havok likely get their own stories in mini-series and anthology books, but never a full on series. Alpha Flight may still be around, and their struggle is to capture Wolverine, but stuff like the Claws being part of his body or the healing factor is dropped. Going into the 90s, Spider-Man probably gets his own series on FOX Kids earlier ITTL.

"His name is Whizzer!" Bobsheaux

And super interesting. I think superheroes as a whole wouldn't be that popular and that Fantastic Four might not even have a film. But Iron Man could and probably would be the very first time they get big.
