If the British had lost their 1811 invasion of Java to the Dutch that had already been occupying that and many other islands in the East Indies (present-day Indonesia), what would have happened to the subsequent course of history in Java and in the rest of the East Indies? For example, would such a loss have perhaps forestalled - or at least delayed - the founding of Singapore in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles?
