In terms of their establishment, the 1st and 2nd wars, or?

As it says in the title. Does anyone know of any good book source material about the Boer Republics?

In terms of their establishment, the 1st and 2nd wars, their politics and economies, or something else?

There is a pretty significant historiography on the South African and Transvaal republics, in English and Afrikaans; simple place to start would be Thomas Pakenham's The Boer War, which focuses on the second conflict, but has several chapters of background and a lengthy bibliography.

The first war (1880-81) has been getting a fair amount of attention lately, as well.

Best,

All of the above to be honest. I have alot of questions concerning it all. I know that the Boer Republics were mostly based on agriculture, but they were sitting on alot of resources so did they develop them or let it be? Politically why were they not more united in the face of the overall threat the British and the surrounding tribes posed? Etc.:confused:
