Best case scenario for the Philippines?

It's just as the title says above, what'll be the best case scenario for the Philippines, rather than ended up as the Third-world backwater in OTL?

Have Ferdinand Marcos choke on an apple before he becomes President?

On a serious note, Marcos’ kleptocracy harmed the Philippines economy.

A more relaxed attitude towards foreign investment would have helped also.

Instead of the a Americans making it a colony, they could estsblish a relationship with the first Filipino republic similar to the one it currently has with Japan. So, the Philippines is self governing, but has various US bases on it. This way the Americans have their Outpost in Asia , while the Philippines are still mostly independent.

The United States respects the Philippine independence movement, instead of suppressing it - The very bloody Philippine-American War, which American history books usually ignore despite it being far more costly than the Spanish-American.
Perhaps the US gets Subic Bay forever, a la Guantanamo. But, that is all.

In addition to the points raised above, there needs to be a better mechanism to offset the three centuries of the Spanish colonial administrative model. That model hindered the development of popular democracy in several regions.

If the Philippines gained independence this early it would start out more like an Asian version of Cuba with a Platt Amendment that lets Washington mess around with Filipino domestic politics, but it would likely to evolve towards a more equal partnership like the US-Japan alliance.
