On February 2, 1852, priest Martin Merino Gómez tried to kill the then Queen Isabel II of Spain

The queen was deeply wounded and fainted, but she survived

What if she died that day

Spain gets ready for another long regency for her one year-old daughter. Expect Montpensier to make trouble, maybe the Carlists. Problem with Montpensier is he doesn't have a son, while the Carlists have Juan III's son, the duque de Madrid (b.1848). So it wraps that up in a nice little bow. Plus, Juan is also pretty liberal - for a Carlist - so he'd probably be preferred to his more conservative relatives

So it can be said that Spain will be in a better position?

So Juan III will just be regent or will he be crowned king to avoid regency?
