Game 163
“SPORTSCENTER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YANKEES AND RED SOX GAME 163 UNOFFICAL AL EAST TITLE GAME”

Steve Levy : Welcome to the late night edition of Sportscenter I am Steve Levy alongside John Anderson and wow what a game you just saw when it came to clinching the AL East

John Anderson: Yeah let’s get to the highlights of this just in cause you somehow missed it!

It’s a beautiful night at Fenway Park as it’s the unofficial AL East championship game between a historic rivalry.

Let’s go to the bottom of the 2nd inning it’s the 1st hit of the game and it’s a stand up double by David Ortiz then later on it’s Adrian Beltre and he’s gonna hit it outta there 2-0 Red Sox already!

Yankees though in the top of the 3rd would respond with Posada with Jeter on 2nd and right away on the first pitch it’s a RBI single 2-1 Red Sox now and that’s now the inning would end!

Later on in the bottom of the 5th still 2-1 Red Sox bases loaded with no outs. Roger Clemens could this be his final game pitched in his career as he faces the threat of being taken out throws 2 strikes and a ball to Carlos Guillen and then Guillen fouls it off 2-2 then the next pitch it’s a ball full count now.

Next pitch STRIKE 3 1 out!! Next hitter is Bill Muller first 2 pitches are strikes but the next 2 pitches are balls but next the next pitch?

It’s a pop up into foul grounds and caught by Aaron Boone the 3rd baseman 2 outs now!

Next batter the lead off man Johnny Damon and the first pitch to him? It’s a easy groundout to 1st and somehow the Yankees get out of that inning with a run!

Top of the 6th here is Lance Berkman who is the DH tonight.

On the 2-1 count with 1 out BAM! Over the green monster tie game at 2!
Berkman has a season of 30 home runs and 50 doubles for the 2nd time in his career!

Derek Lowe can’t believe it!

However the Red Sox in the bottom of the 7th? Ortiz with a man on 3rd nearly goes over the green monster a RBI single makes it 3-2 Red Sox!

A sac fly would make it 4-2 Red Sox later on

In the top of the 9th however 1 out Yankees have a man on their own on 3rd Posada hits one into center and Johnny Damon thinks he has the catch but NO it goes under him and a run scores it’s now 3 to 4 Boston!

Later on Giambi with Posada on 3rd it’s a 2-1 pitch and he hits it high and Damon has it and Posada is gonna risk going home to score the winning run and…….VARTIEK DROPS THE BALL!!

4-4 Yankees it’s a tie game again the crowd at Fenway can’t believe it!

Let’s go to extra innings in the top of the 11th Red Sox back in the lead at 5-4 2 outs and the Red Sox are 1 put away from their 1st title in almost 10 years Scott Williamson on the mound and coming in to pitch hit for Jason Giambi is Drew Henson a former football player that has gone back and forth with the MLB and Triple A squad this season

Henson on a 0-2 pitch here is the call from ESPN Radio

“0-2 Pitch the wind up and deliver….Swing and a drive it’s near the foul pole on the right side and its a …..HOME RUN THE YANKEES TAKE THE LEAD 6-5 ON A PITCH HIT HOME RUN BY DREW HENSON!”

A hero’s moment for the Yankees as they are able to stay alive as we go to the bottom of the 11th and with 2 outs on a 0-2 count as Tom Gordon faces against Adrian Beltre here is the call from John Sterling of WFAN

“Here is the pitch on the 0-2 count and it’s a ground ball to Miguel Cairo he throws it to 1st base and HES OUT THE YANKEES WIN AND ARE ONCE AGAIN BACK ON TOP OF THE AL EAST!!!
THE YANKEES GET REVENGE FROM LAST YEAR’s ALCS!”

The New York Yankees win the game and the division while Roger Clemens getting his 21st win of the season the 4th time in his career he wins more than 20 games in a season.

And the Yankees will advance to the ALDS and the defending champion Boston Red Sox will have to settle for the Wild Card
