An MLB Collaborative TL: Piece of Cake: The Cubs win Game 6 in '03

NFL Primetime week 1 part 2
“SOMEMORE NFL PRIMETIME HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK 1”

Chris Berman: Into the late window of the games we go down to Denver at Mile High Stadium as they take on the Raiders. First quarter

Jake “The Snake” Plumber looks and throws and right away it’s picked off by the 4th overall pick in the draft rookie out of Miami Sean Taylor and he takes it all the way back to Denver’s 40 yard line

Tom Jackson: Yeah I expect big things from this man I think he is gonna fit perfectly fine here!

Chris Berman: Later on in that drive Rich Gannon looks and throws and is gonna find Jerry Rice his 1st touchdown catch this season and in what he says will be his final season in the NFL 7-0 Raiders!

Later in the quarter for the Broncos a handoff to Clinton Portis and he’s gonna get a good block “BOOM” and he’s gotta get down to the Oakland 20 yard line which lead to a Elam field goal to make it 7-3

Next drive however for Oakland Rich Gannon hoping to bounce back after a injury ridden 2003 season looks and finds Antonio Freeman who hopes to have a career resurgence in Oakland for a 30 yard gain puts them near the red zone!
A few plays later the Raiders run it in to make it a 14-3 game

In the next quarter the Broncos looking like they can get back in the game but Plummer on 1st and 10 at midfield throws and it’s picked off by Sean Taylor and he breaks a tackle and HE COULD GO ALL THE WAY! Its a pick 6 for Sean Taylor his second career interception and it goes all the way for a touchdown! 21-3 Raiders!
Taylor in his first career game is already looking like a veteran!

Late in the 2nd quarter however the Broncos would finally get a touchdown as Portis gets a hand off and has one tackle to beat and WHOOP over Charles Woodson and he makes that 20 yard touchdown look easy! However it comes with a price on the extra point it’s BLOCKED by Rod Woodson another one who is thinking about retirement after this season but what a way to start off a possible final season by him 21-9 Raiders going into halftime!
In the 2nd half oooh boy it was not a good day for Plummer he gets introduced by new star free agent acquisition Warren Sapp and ITS A FUMBLE!! and it’s recovered by Charles Woodson and he takes it to the Red Zone!

To capitalize on that turnover Gannon to the other “Jerry” on the team Jerry Porter on a fade to the end zone and it’s caught for 6 to put this game out of reach! 28-9 Raiders!

4th quarter you knew it was coming again Plummer tries to find Rod Smith again but guess who it is? It’s Sean Taylor! His 3rd INT in his NFL debut and with that the Raiders pretty much close out the game with a win 35-9!

Tom Jackson: What a debut from Sean Taylor and Warren Sapp plus from Tom Coughlin’s Raiders
coaching debut!

I think they are able to show that last season was a fluke and I think are ready to run the tables again in the AFC West.

Chris Berman: Alright so let’s head out to Edward Jones Dome in St Louis for the Rams and Cowboys

Unfortunately it would be a rough start for the Cowboys as Quincy Carter early on in the game throws it to Terry Glenn but he comes out very awkwardly. It’s later revealed it’s a knee injury and he might have to miss some time so here steps in a 7th round pick they signed recently and activated from their practice squad who was a star for Texas Tech last year putting up record after record B.J Symons.

Let’s see what he can do in his unexpected debut
Next drive Symons finds the tight end Jason Witten out to the Rams gold line and 2 player later 2nd and goal Symons gets a big NFL welcome last year All Pro Leonard Little! They would settle for a field goal it’s 3-0 Cowboys

Later on in the 1st quarter Marc Bulger in his first full season as the Rams quarterback “The Tin Man” is “looking” and he finds Dane Looker for a 30 yard catch across the field pass midfield.

Later on Bugler “Dundun” “Dundun” “Dundun” “If I could only find Torry Holt in the end zone!” and he does beautiful throw 7-3 Rams!

Next quarter

Symons looks and BOOM! Tank Johnson the 2nd round pick from Washington makes him cough up the football and it’s picked up by reliable veteran Aeneas Williams! Rams back in scoring range! And guess what happens next drive? That’s right Bugler gives it off to “Marshall!” “Marshall!” Faulk and he eases his way into the end zone with a 10 yard touchdown run to put the Rams up 14-3!

Later on around the 2 minute warning Cowboys putting back on their goal line here’s the snap
And it goes WAY over the punters head! It’s a safety 16-3 Rams now!

2nd Half in the middle of the 3rd Quarter!

Bulger to the tight end 1st round rookie from Florida Ben Troppe and it’s caught! Breaks a tackle but it’s pushed out of bounds by Terrance Newman before anymore damage could be done! The drive ends on a field goal to make it 19-3 Rams and that would be the game’s final score!

The first full season of the Marc Bulger starts with a win and the Rams hope to reclaim their “Greatest Show on Turf” status soon

The folks here at NFL Primetime wish the best for Quincy Carter and hope he recovers soon.

Expos stadium plans, Twins need a miracle
September 16, 2004: A report in the Montreal Gazette suggests that the Montreal Expos would play the 2005 season at Molson Stadium, home the CFL's Montreal Alouettes while renovations to the existing Olympic Stadium take place. The Expos will also play 30 "home" games in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as they have the last two years before playing in Montreal full time for 2006.

September 17, 2004: The race to land the Minnesota Twins intensifies as a Washington DC based group led by Ted Leonsis announces plans for a new ballpark in the heart of DC and says his group is "ready" to move the Twins to where the franchise played from 1901 to 1960. Meanwhile, two other groups, one based out of Portland, Oregon and another based out of Las Vegas, Nevada claim to have their own deals ready for the MLB for permission to move the Twins to one of those cities. As for keeping the Twins in Minnesota, former MLB player and Minnesota native Paul Molitor says he has a group to buy the Twins and keep it in Minnesota, but the group has very little financial backing. The Twins currently sit 6.5 games back of the White Sox in the AL Central and 9 games back of the Yankees for the AL Wild Card with about two weeks left in the regular season.

Another week of CFB
September 18, 2004: Week 3 of college football was mostly a quiet one. Number 1 USC easily beat UC Davis from the FCS, number 2 Oklahoma crushed Indiana 46-3, number 3 Florida State edged out Maryland 24-21 after being down 10 entering the fourth quarter, and fourth-ranked Texas cruised past Tulsa 44-7.

An upset that did happen was Ohio State losing again, this time to Louisville on the road. It wasn't even close really, with the Cardinals beating the Buckeyes 34-16 as the two time defending national champions fall to 1-2 on the season. Another top 10 team, #9 West Virginia, lost as well, falling on a last second field goal to Boston College 27-24 in Morgantown.

*BOSTON COLLEGE RADIO CALL OF THE FIELD GOAL*
"Here we go, one second left, from 52 yards, Blackmon's kick is up and it is... GOOD! IT'S GOOD! The Eagles have stunned West Virginia!"

All the other Top 10 teams would win this week and with ease however, for somewhat of a quiet week.

Next week's AP Top 25 poll shows the top 10 as...
1. USC
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. Florida State
5. Georgia
6. Miami (FL)
7. Notre Dame
8. Michigan
9. Florida
10. Oregon

Well, it was a good run for the Buckeyes while it lasted I guess!

Derby Doubles
September 18, 2004: The first major derby of the European season, and its taking place in Italy. The Milan Derby, between Inter and AC Milan, is the first major derby to take place on this season’s calendar. The match goes down as an interesting and entertaining affair, with Andrey Schevchenko opening the scoring in the sixth minute, heading in a goal off a corner kick, giving AC Milan the 1-0 lead. Inter take a time to find their response, but they eventually do, with a goal from the left side of the box by Julio Cruz in the 44th minute evening the game. The goals cool off, but the match does not, as three yellow cards are dished out, two for AC Milan, with Kaka and Cafu getting one, and one for Inter, from Marco Materazzi. The goalscoring isn’t finished though, as Kaka scores a wonderful solo goal in the 79th minute, outdribbling the Inter back line before finishing the run by chipping Francesco Toldo. AC Milan would hold on to complete the victory, pushing themselves 5 points clear at the top of the table.

September 19, 2004: The second big derby of the year is arguably the biggest in the world, with Liverpool meeting Manchester United at Old Trafford. The game would start the exact way Manchester United would hope, with the attack charging the Liverpool goal time and time again. However, the defense is like a sponge, absorbing every attack that comes their way. This remains until the 27th minute, when Liverpool defender Sami Hyypiä collected a shot from Paul Scholes before firing it down the pitch to Harry Kewell, who beat the final United defender before dribbling around keeper Roy Carroll to slide the ball into the net and give Liverpool a 1-0 advantage. A second goal would arrive just four minutes later, with Djimi Traore cleaning up a loose ball in the box off a corner, firing it in the top corner to double the Liverpool lead. The game would go into the second half, and it would be put away early, with Steven Gerrard scoring a free kick in the 66th minute to give the Reds a 3-0 lead they wouldn’t vanquish, giving them all three points and putting them just 1 point behind Arsenal for the league lead.

Two teams clinch
September 19, 2004: We have our first American League team to clinch a playoff spot, as the Anaheim Angels clinched their second playoff spot in the last three seasons with a 9-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at the Big A, led by 5 hits from Garrett Anderson and an 8 run sixth inning.

September 20, 2004: A Day after the Angels clinched, we have our third team to clinch and our second AL team, as the defending World Champion Boston Red Sox assured themselves a playoff spot with a 7-5 win over the Oakland A's, eliminating Oakland from the playoffs as well. Boston and Anaheim are currently fighting for not just their divisions, but for home field advantage throughout the AL playoffs.

Detroit protest, New stadium for Mets
September 21, 2004: In a very loud statement, 6,500 Lions fans protest at the teams practice facility, protesting the fact that Matt Millen is still with the team. The aftermath of the protest is yet to be seen.

September 22, 2004: The New York Mets announce plans for a new stadium in Queens. The stadium will have a rumored capacity of 47,650. The plan is still pending approval, but is expected to be confirmed by the end of the year.
