*doesn't get the joke, presumably because he's not American*
Same here.

I'm a bit torn right now. On the one hand, I feel melancholic about me getting so old that people have never heard of this particular band from my youth, on the other hand I feel overjoyed about the fact that NSYNC has finally (and rightfully!) been forgotten.

As Pischinovski pointed out, it's a casted boy group from the 90s. I for one prefer my folk rock NSYNC over the OTL version.

The Confederate States of America (or CSA) is known for being the most oppressive nations on the planet. While slavery was outlawed in 1904 due to it becoming too expensive and pressure coming from more than a few nations, African-Americans are still largely oppressed. Very few of them can vote, and many companies deny African-Americans from working in or being served. The discrimination has been largely been enforced by the de facto party, the Democratic Party, which controls most politics in the land. However, during the 2000s people have become more tolerant, even though many civil liberties are taken from African-Americans and other people of color. The CSA election of 2013 was expected to continue the discrimination because at first there seemed to be no opposition to the Democrats. Then, two political activists Jim Folsom (Jr) and Owner of Tillerson's diner, Rex Tillerson ran as pro-Civil Rights Independents. The ticket gained a small amount of popularity running as just Civil Rights candidates. However, the two also ran as anti-establishment populists, which helped their popularity. However on election day, the ticket received less votes than expected and many claimed that this was due to vote-rigging by Huckabee. Due to this accusation, people rioted in many cities causing mass amounts of damage and death. This has lead to Huckabee arresting Folsom and Tillerson for supporting violence, leading to protests. After the opposition that the Huckabee administration received for this, some are expecting changes to be made in the CSA...

The CSA has a six-year presidential term.

Not bad. Wallace was a decent man, but he lacked the bottle or the icewater in his veins to really be a long-lasting or effective president. His FP would have been a train wreck, he'd have blocked the Marshall Plan and left Europe to languish under poverty and Soviet Dictatorship. Good thing Truman got it instead.

Feel tired of the hot climate of Venus, the endless ice of Ganymede, or the dusky skies of Argyle? Welcome to Vardina, home to the world-famous Vardinan pizza with avocadoes, the glorious Maroon Sea and the baby blue hachapuri! In just 7 days and for 320,000 orions, you'll be as healthy as a bull! Come to Vardina - you won't regret it!

The republic of Vardina, originally yet another Sochi-esque tourist trap colony designed by the pervasive Hand of the Kremlin, has seen better times. Falling to many coup d'etats during the end of the 23rd century and the beginning of the 24th century, Vardina was not exactly up to modern standards of industrialization. Vardina was historically dominated by the Conservative Labour party, a socially conservative socialist party that used to continuously fight against "fascist" elements (such as the Prusakites, named after prominent Vardinan military leader and filibuster Viktor Prusakov, who would go on to join the neoliberal Eleutheria party). Of course, while the Conservative Labour party faced opposition from the more "Western" socialist parties (who would go on to form the neo-syndicalist, nominally progressive United Socialist League).

In the 2380s, the Vardinan economy suffered massively due to mismanagement by Fyodor Putilin, an "old-school Khruschevist" according to critics and "an upholder of Vardinan traditions and freedoms through security and economic expansion according to Vardinan socialist values" according to himself. Fyodor Putilin's attempt to boost industry and agriculture by partially forcing the population to create machine farms across the country and reforming the Syndicates has resulted into de facto oligarchs monopolizing on the means of production, while the endless fields of Vardina suffered from pollution by the poorly-made machine farms. Outraged by this, the United Socialists rose in power, stealing certain votes from the Conservative Labour Party. Likewise, Eleutheria gained popularity, promising "true democracy and market capitalism" to the people. The disgraced Putilin decided against running for President in 2394, having already served two terms. In his place, Nikolai Gagartsov, a "mountain man" and Minister of Defense with a neo-Cossack allure, ran for President.

However, in the end, the Alliance for an United Vardina, spearheaded by former Syndicate leader and famous actor Gabriel Gotsiridze, who represented social democratic and moderate ideas. With Gabriel Gotsiridze winning 56.7% of the popular vote, no runoff was held, making the election of 2394 the second presidential election in a row to have no runoff.

The Black Abdullah

In a part of the post-Russian Empire not considered "important" to history of the world by general consensus, the figure of Abdullah oglu Madan "the Black" has always struck historians as complex and influential. In a Russia torn by the Civil War and opposition to White and Red dominance alike, Abdullah was, perhaps, a success story - rising from a mere bandit with nine wives to a prominent politician in newly-formed Turkestan. With the intense rivalry between the Jadidists and the Kadimists, the latter actively supported Abdullah, painting him as the heroic freedom fighter against Russian imperialism. Eventually, as all opposing forces were driven off from Turkestan and the political situation of the nation stabilized, the Kadimists, desiring some sort of advantage over the liberal Jadidists, invited Abdullah into the government. Abdullah begrudgingly accepted the proposition, becoming part of the Military Council of Turkestan.

The Military Council was perhaps the least stable of the entirety of the Turkestani government. The Jadidists and the Kadimists in the Council actively blamed each other for any losses the nation may have endured in its war against the Whites and the Reds, and the sudden death of Magdi Chanyshev in 1922 has not helped. The introduction of the Black Abdullah into the Military Council terrified Jadidists and Kadimists alike, but Abdullah's rapid rise in power, helped by the ineffectuality of Zand, terrified them even more as Black Abdullah suddenly became the Chairman of the Military Council. His charisma and intellect led to the Black Abdullah effectively becoming the de facto leader of Turkestan.

Black Abdullah's politics were characterized not so much by sheer conservatism of the man behind them as they were characterized by purges of revolutionary elements, reform of national security, pro-British nature and a government divided between moderate, populist Kadimists and ineffectual Jadidists. As such, Black Abdullah quickly became a highly divisive figure, despised by the most liberal, pro-Russian Jadidists and the ultraconservative Islamic clerics alike, and the disappearance of many of Abdullah's wives worried many in the Turkestani government. As such, while visiting Tashkent, Abdullah was found dead in a small house, slumped over a table.

Abdullah's legacy would continue to influence Turkestani politics many decades after the Black Abdullah's death. Among historians, the Black Abdullah's past and his ethnicity is commonly disputed and has caused many controversies.

BONUS

POD: With a lack of a Stalin and chaos in the government of the Soviet Union (eventually headed by Bukharin), prominent Confederalist leader and worker of the Comissariate of Finance of the Yakut ASSR, Pavel Vasilievich Ksenofontov narrowly succeeds in creating a full Soviet Socialist Republic from a mere ASSR in the depths of Siberia. Hilarity ensues.
