There's already one in the Writer's Forum.
I took a quick scan of the existing thread, and it looks like the wikiboxes are overwhelmingly political. They're about alternate leaders and alternate election results. Many are historical or fantastic, but a lot is blatant present-day politics.

That kind of thing only belongs in Chat. I know some of you guys really like putting together wikiboxes, but this is an alternate history site and we are very careful to keep "pure politics" stuff limited to Chat.

As a good rule of thumb, if you're talking about alternate results of the most recent election or the next election, that's a Chat topic. If people can't reply to your post without bringing up today's political disputes, it's a Chat topic.

I'd like to preserve the Writers' Forum for written stories, so let's not put anything here.

Ian has issued a final ruling on the current politics question

This sentence, in particular, should be used as a rule of thumb

If people can't reply to your post without bringing up today's political disputes, it's a Chat topic.

I agree with this ruling.

Albert Redwood (born 5 September 2023) is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Redwood is the son of the Duke of York and his first wife, former MP Ellie Redwood. From his birth, Redwood has been a source of scandal and controversy in the United Kingdom. He was conceived in a one night stand between his parents and his mother kept her pregnancy secret for several months. However, when her pregnancy was reported, Prince Harry confronted her and she admitted the child was his. King William forced them to marry quickly to ensure the child was recognized. Due to the rocky base of the marriage, they were divorced when young Albert turned 7. When he turned 18, Albert asked to be removed from the succession and to become a commoner. King William allowed this and Albert assumed a low profile while attending Oxford by using his mother's name. At age 32, he stood as the PPP candidate in Birmingham Northfield and defeated his LLA and Conservative opponents. His candidacy was the third of his major scandals as many were not fond of the idea of a member (or former member) of the royal family entering Parliament. Redwood was a low-key backbench MP until the 2065 elections, when the PPP won its first election since its creation. Under new Prime Minister Buckland, Redwood, one of Buckland's staunchest allies, expected a Cabinet position but was passed over. Although he briefly entertained bolting the party to the LLA, these plans were abandoned when Buckland unexpectedly died of a heart attack one month into his ministry. Redwood entered the leadership race in 4th place but after frontrunner Barry Moorehead dropped out due to a highly publicized embezzlement campaign, Redwood surged ahead and unexpectedly won the first and second rounds of voting. His uncle called him to form the government and Redwood became Prime Minister.
Under Redwood's leadership, anti-monarchist sentiment was quelled following his uncle's death, the United Kingdom survived the global banking crisis largely unscathed, and coastal reclamation efforts expanded greatly. PPP's majority in Parliament has increased in every election with Redwood at the expense of LLA, cementing PPP as the true successor to old Labour and the dominant second party. Redwood, like his predecessors, has also focused on repairing relations with the continent. Redwood has many nicknames, including "Churchill of the Left", "Bastard of Britain", and "the Miracle Man".
If he retires, his cousin King George is considering instating him as Duke of York after the very aged Duke Harry dies, another idea that is creating quite a stir in British politics. Having been Prime Minister for 13 years, Redwood is considering stepping down as leader in time for the 2080 election, but his high popularity and lack of a clear successor has led to his party asking him to stay.

So, a bit of a dumb rush job, but I read Speaker for the Dead in one sitting last week (currently like two chapters into Xenocide) and this is the product of my boredom. This wikibox would probably be current shortly before the events of Speaker for the Dead.

From Forgotten No More, the 1888 Workers Party National Convention that saw President Knickerbocker re-nominated amidst some calls for a new face. Knickerbocker would go on to lose the election to George Custer.

Rescue of American Embassy hostages in Iran

The Iranian Hostage Crisis was an important point in American post-war history. Conventional sources will tell you President Jimmy Carter's failure to release the hostages played a pivotal role in his defeat in the presidential election of 1980, ushering in the Reagan Revolution. In actual fact, however, the story is different.

In October, with public opinion of the administration at an all-time low, President Carter and a number of his military aides devised a final, last-ditch, plan to rescue the hostages still in Iran. A team of army commandos would enter the compound where the hostages were located, free them before loading the hostages on an Army plane to return to a safe place in Turkey, where they would be personally met by President Carter. Originally, the plan looked like it would work out fine. However, in late October, a number of unrelated events meant the Army force due to take part in the actual mission dwindled. With President Carter ready at the base on the 1st, unfortunate news came in - the plane carrying the last 10 men ready to take part in the rescue had taken off too early, stranding them in a remote airport in rural Turkey. With no other way of freeing the hostages, and circumstances meaning they would be unable to wait for the last men to make their way to the safe house, Jimmy Carter himself volunteered to complete the mission he had been planning for months. Flying in a small plane (his plane flying skills were unknown to the general public and still are to this day), he landed in the outskirts of Tehran early in the morning, he would sneak in, armed with one rifle, releasing the hostage who could them commandeer the plane he arrived in before he would flee and disappear into Tehran to be picked up by midnight.

At around 2am, Carter landed the plane in the Tehran outskirts before, under the cover of darkness, heading towards the place the hostages were kept. Helped by sympathetic locals, he would enter the building around sunrise, mingling in with the hostages. He quietly explained to the hostages the plan to escape before finding a way out. Finally, at around 11am, a mass breakout was staged while Carter exchanged gunfire with the soldiers guarding the hostages. The hostage-takers were reportedly surprised by both Carter's appearance and his combat abilities. While most of the hostage-takers were pre-occupied with trying to fight Jimmy Carter, the hostages dispersed before managing to find the plane and escaping Tehran. As chaos erupted, Carter fled into the streets of Tehran, before being rescued himself late at night.

However, the Reagan presidential campaign team became aware of the rescue of the hostages. Knowing that public knowledge of both the rescue and Jimmy Carter's personal involvement would, for sure, lose the GOP the election. They conspired with both the American military and the Iranian revolutionaries to cover up the event, deciding the official 'release' of the hostages would occur during Reagan's inauguration. Carter's rescue of the hostages would be covered up for over 30 years, but there are whisperings of the true events on November 1st. Maybe, one day, the public will know of President Carter's part in the freeing of the hostages.
