Alternate names for member states of a non-Bolshevik federal Russian state 1917ff.?

Let us assume, for the moment, that the October Revolution is averted and Russia becomes a sort of federal republic, where various previously "caged" nations (Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, possibly Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, one or more Kazakh and Tatar entities in Central Asia etc.) establish their autonomous polities which are still more or less loosely tied together and to Russia through some kind of federal constitution and institutions.

How would these member states / autonomous entities officially be called? From OTL, we have "... People's Republic", "... Socialist Soviet Republic" and "...Autonomous Republic" on offer, but they all have, to varying degrees, a feel to it that seems inappropriate for a TL without October Revolution and OTL's Civil War. The only limit is that no aristocratic/monarchic terminology is allowed (so no "Grand Duchy of Finland" or "Khanate of Khiva").

What were possible sources of terminological inspiration at the time?
