Alternate History Quotes

This one is based from a Victoria 2 Lets Play

"The British are crazy, fanatically crazy. They threw the lives of three hundred and sixty thousand men, women, and children just to kill one man, his holiness, the Pope, in vain. We have only lost five thousand men, this is a massacre! My God, why are the Britons so eager to destroy your holy church? These poor mislead victims, they have been brainwashed by their corrupted government. They promised these people knighthood, wealth, and sainthood for whoever kills his holiness. And as I look at the casualty roster, I can see the poor, mislead souls. This has to stop! We must now march to London and punish the corrupt King of Britain, better yet, wipe out their wretched bloodline, and destroy the British Empire altogether. Yes, destroying the biggest empire in the world overnight. And from hereon, the true church shall reign."

-An unknown Pontifical Swiss Guard soldier on the aftermath of the Battle of Kent, 1910, the biggest battle on British soil, and the bloodiest battle in makind's history. 500,000 British soldiers and armed mobs attacked the 50,000 troops of the combined (Papal) Italian and Swiss invasion force at Kent. The battle lasted for two long and bloody months of non-stop fighting, the Italo-Swiss forces held their ground with minimal losses, but the determined British fought on. The remaining British forces were finally routed when 100,000 (Prussian) German and Romanian reinforcements flanked the spent Britons.

"May God be with us? I AM God's elect! This blasphemy shall be punished, the American devil shall pay dearly for using God's name in vain."

- Pope Shen I, upon America's war declaration speech "May God be with us" against Papal Italy on the 4th War of Papal Containment. Against all odds, the Papacy single-handedly won all four containment wars against Britain, France, Russia, Scandinavia, and the United States.

"Today, we celebrate a new year of 1936 of the Anno Domini. And as we look in the past, we have seen just how far we've gone, a century ago, the Papal States was a backwater, weak, and isolated. Critics doubt it would last. Italy as a whole is divided, played around by the French and Austrian tyrants. But God has never abandoned us, for he gave us Pope Shen I who reversed our fortunes and unified all of Italy under the banner of God. He also pursued political reforms, improved education, raised the standard of living of the people, and introduced democracy, however small it may be. When he died in 1869, Italy is one of the world's richest and most powerful nation.

After Pope Shen I, came Pope Shen II, under him, we have expanded an overseas empire, sending forth the word of God and his kingdom to Africa, Korea, Indochina, Malaya, and even Mecca. All of this while continuing the reforms of his predecesor, and even spreading further, he gave citizenship to all his subjects, and establishing an independent and secular parliament, allowing the people to speak more freely on the political affairs of the state. When the first Great War broke out in 1889, he lead us to victory, taking large swathes of lands from France and Austria, liberated Poland, and sunk the British Royal Navy to the bottom of the sea, effectively taking over the rule of the waves. By the time he was assassinated by the Jacobins in 1901, Italia has the second most powerful Army and the most powerful Navy in the world.

And now, we are in the reign of his holiness, Pope Shen III. While he may not be as powerful as his predecessors, he however brought us to our zenith, we had destroyed the British Empire, and took control of her dominion of New Zealand. Pope Shen III is the most radical Pope in history. He has given full political power to the people, a democracy ordained by God. Also under his reign, that new ideas flood the country, and letting go of the conservatism, and that is where we, the Pontifical Socialist Party took power in 1914, with yours truly as Prime Minister.

Other socialists and communist say, we're not real socialists, we waged war against the Soviet Union, and had remained a pluralistic stance on religion. We say, the Soviet Union is a perverted tyrany, not a true egalitarian democracy.

And also they say, 'God is dead', and 'Religion is the opium of the proletariat'. We say, God is not dead, nor is religion the opium of the masses, for God himself is an egalitarian. Therefore I say, faith and socialism are not opposites as they say, but are surprisingly, bread and butter.

With these said, I would want to say thank you for listening and have a Happy New Year. May we cheer, for bright future awaits the Kingdom of God."

- Prime Minister Benito Mussolini, Pontifical Socialist Party, New Year Speech, 1936

"My fellow Americans. I can gladly announce that I have tonight killed the death. That's right. At first I wanted to go to sleep, but I decided to work on my Judo instead. Suddenly that fucker shows up trying to collect my soul. I of course wanted nothing of that and knocked him out so bad that he fell on his own Scythe. So thanks to me you are all immortal. You can thank me by voting for me in the next election. Peace out!"
