Pretty much what the title says. Which countries could become communist before the creation of the Soviet Union?
Doesn't have to be a post 1900 POD.

So you say you want a revolution.....
Maybe a worker driven revolt in America during the gilded age? I know there's a TL on that on the forum....
Almost all of these were founded on former Imperial Russian territory during and after the Russian Revolution.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Early_Soviet_Republics
This might help. Most of those mentioned were plausible at some point.
which is that?
Communism (well, first Socialism) was supposed to come about in Industrialized states. A key point of Marxism is pretty much a laboring class under the thumb of a bourgeoisie created by the Industrial Revolution. There would be infrastructure, labor, etc to form the framework. That's why Russia was exceedingly odd.Probably Britain or Germany. In fact, I think Karl Marx predicted that the first communist revolution would happen in places like Britain and Germany instead of the largely feudal Russia at that time.

So I'd say Germany or other Industrialized European states.
