Brief History
Sometime in the early 10th Century the Village of Gaeil was established on the shores of what would become known as the Gaeilen Lake. It is quite likely that the Gaeilens are a mix between the Firan and Native Alraeran Peoples. Firan outposts were discovered on the West Coast of Alraera by Li-Ain during their expansion into the continent. How the Firan would've made it this far inland remains a mystery.
By the 12th Century, the Gaeilens had already colonized much of the Great Lakes and some of Northeast Alraeran. Explorers from Valea and Acatar noted their difference from the rest of Alraera, and even then some had suspected their roots could be traced back to Northeast Acatar.
More evidence of earlier interaction between Acatars and Alraera was discovered much later, as evidence that a plague sweeping the Alraeran Continent during the 10th century was discovered in the 1720s. This would explain why the Alraeran people showed a stronger resistance to old-world diseases than Native Avaians.
Although much of Souther Alraeran had recovered from the 10th Century plagues, the Northern regions remained sparsely populated. Between the 12th and 14th Centuries, the Gaeilans expanded West virtually unopposed. The few natives that remained were either assimilated or destroyed. Only the expansion of the Li-Ain Kingdom was capable of stopping them from reaching the West Coast.
During the 14th Century, the Gaeilen Empire began an aggressive expansion southward. They managed to conquer most of Alraeran Continent by 1390, pushing all the way to the Gulf of Vicaur. The Gaeilen Empire ruled the Alraeran Continent for decades.
Unlike the North, Native Alaerans faced heavy discrimination from the Gaeilen minority. Tensions between Northern and Southern Gaeilens soared on how to deal with the issue. Southern Gaeilens believed that non-Gaeilens should be given fewer rights. On The Thirty-Second of Rein, 1484 Parliament passed the Equal Rights Act. Over the next few months, civil war broke out as the Southern Provinces seceded.
The civil war ended with a Southern victory, but that did not last. Over the decades following the resulting New Gaeilen Empire collapsed, in some areas the Native Alaeran uprisings took control.
Following the Civil War of the 1480s, the Gaeilen Empire has not been involved in many major wars. Their last war was against the Jicoku Republic, which ended in 1651.
Despite their non-involvement in warfare, they have maintained a powerful military at all times. In 1721, they became the second nation to develop nuclear weapons.
In the modern age, the Gaeilen Empire became one of the leaders in scientific progress, as well as space exploration. Gaeil placed the first satellite in orbit in 1729. They placed humans on the Moon months after Aramel. They established the first Moon base in 1762. In 1784, the Gaeil Space Organization began the mission to land a human on one of the moons of Juonov and return him to Earth.
In 1783, Gaeilen scientists created the first feasible nuclear reactor and expect to go commercial by 1790.
