AHC: Surviving Far Eastern Republic

The Far Eastern Republic was a nation that was created in the aftermath of a power vacuum that arose after the American and Japanese armies withdrew from Siberia, and it was a short lived state before the Bolsheviks took over. For a time, it was an unusual state because it had a functioning democracy.

Now, is it possible that the Far Eastern Republic could have survived if the Japanese did not withdraw from that territory, or would the FER be doomed to fail from the start?

The Soviets agreed to the existence of the F.E.R. as a buffer zone against the Japanese though.

I mean, yes they agreed to make it a buffer zone. That kind of make sense they agreed to something they did in first place.

That might be true though, so the FER could have existed as a Siberian equivalent to "Austria" to the RSFSR's "Germany".

If it did survive with Japanese protection there is no way it would survive the Second World War. It would have been a puppet of the Japanese in the 30's and a pawn in the 40's. After the allied victory Stalin would have demanded and been given the right to reincorporate it into the Soviet Union.

But would it have broken away in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed? Would Putin be threatening the FER today instead of Ukraine?

One other thing too would be the ethnic makeup of this place. We know that the FER's territories was once slotted for "Green Ukraine", so we could have Ukrainians living in the FER. In a twist of irony though, the FER's residents could proclaim a "Primorye People's Republic" and hold a referendum on whether or not they want autonomy or independence and clashing against Russian troops with the Primorsky People's Militia. (Donetsk scenario in the Far East) Or we could have a campaign for the FER to reunite with Chinese Manchuria since Outer Manchuria was a part of the Qing Empire.
