AHC: Revolutionary Austria, France tries to set things the way they were

Reverse of OTL. A continent-wide revolution and conflagration is begun by Austria, while France's ambassador is the one trying to put things back the way they used to be, a-la Metternich

Well, the problem with this scenario is that the whole Austrian empire was held together by dynastic bonds and royal prerogatives. If those go away, there’s nothing keeping it together.

That said, though, if the scenario is an 1848-like revolution starting in Austria and spreading to the rest of the Holy Roman Empire (sans Prussia), and the new Austrian leader is proclaimed “President of Germany” or “Imperial Consul” or something of that nature, that’s a whole different ballgame. Are we assuming here that this Revolutionary Austria has a Napoleon-like figure who can hold the state together against enemies on all sides?

If the Habsburg empire didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent it. It was vital to the balance of power, so if the fundamental integrity of the monarchy is threatened, its allies (which from the seven years war included France) would find their position threatened. If the subject peoples of the empire were too much for the Emperor to handle, France might get pulled into fixing it.
