And yes, Ho Chi Minh is as much a communist as a nationalist. But I remind people that the “Asian Tiger” economies are very much mixed economies.

So, paint me an optimistic picture. :)

Maybe if the French had been a little better at salesmanship, and had not simply announced.

Or, since the French are open to a wide variety of settlements, let the pro-independence side come up with an idea. Ask for something so they won’t think they could have gotten so much more! ;) Meaning, when you can and will accept a broad range of settlements, that can make for a tricky situation. Don’t tip your hand in that regard.
