What if the Byzantines, influenced by Western Europeans during the high middle ages started building Castles to fortify important positions? How would this affect the Empire's development and territorial integrity?

Could this help secure Anatolia from Turkish raiders, and possibly help them retake more lands, if they started using it to help with invasions, like how the English did against the Welsh?

they did build them so even before the kommenos the only thing you need is the upkeep and some what expansion on key fortresses but unlike western Europe the state not fuedal lords are responsible for costs, no amount of extra forts would work well if the roman economy is n free fall like in the late 11th century

It would definitely help hold back the Turkish raiders pre 1071 or if after 1071 they can hold back the Turkish invaders as before they establish the sultanate of rum they were mostly calvary
