POD of 1778. Make Australia as big as possible by 1900 using the most justified wank.
What can Australia do to expand its territory? Can you get this "Greater Australia" to include New Zeland, the entire island of New Guinea, all the islands in the middle of the pacific ocean, maybe even Timor and other Indonesian Islands? Phillipines? Good Luck!!!

For me, if Australia become the only ''British'' power in the pacific, kinda what happened during WW2, they could end up encompassing New-Zealand, New-Guinea and the British Pacific Islands for protection.
I know that your POD is quite large but even in 1778, Timor was to the Portuguese (which were always a kind of ally for Britain), the Indies were Dutch (which I dont see Australia keeping for much longer then the Dutch did, the pop. unbalance is way too great) and the Spanish got the Phillipines and seeing how much of a trouble they were both for them and the USA, I think that an Australia that avoid it is actually stronger.

Australia certainly could have incorporated New Zealand, New Guinea and a whole bunch of Pacific islands under its administration.

There are possible ways to acquire Timor, if only to keep it from being nabbed by Indonesia. There was an OTL proposal by Timorese politicians to do exactly that.
