though most of the ancient Greek writers report on the Amazons that they once had lived at the river Thermodon in Northern Turkey, beside it there is a tradition that Amazons once had existed in Libya in Northern Africa.In the infertile country at the Hoggar mountains deep in the Sahara desert there live the last remains of the Tuareg people.

For African Amazons

With an POD set aroud 800 B.C., That Bascically states WI: The Taureg/Berber Women would had established an powerful civilaztion in north Africa that would almost rival The splendour of Egypt and other East african Kingdoms. Points shall be Awarded For.

I'm curious: why did they die out? Invasions? Famine?
Unsustainability? Assimilation? I would assume they weren't an
all-woman civilization, but rather a matriarchal society. If so, thier
growth might be impeded by surrounding patriarchal societies.

IIRC the last one. According to many historical accounts of
reasonable reliability the Scythians that has absorbed them turned
out rather egalitarian even by horse nomad standards (which were a
vast improvement over those of contemperary settled folk like the
Greeks).

Of course rumour has it that some migrated east to the fringes of
Tibet (modern Qinghai provence) ^_-
