AH Challenge: Socialist Austria after WWII

Here is an AH challenge, with the POD the aftermath of WWII, make Austria Socialist by 1954. It can be on either side in the Cold War. This Socialist Government must last at least 25 years, and can dissolve at any time. Give a thorough explanation of how Austria progresses in History as a Socialist nation.

Be a bit more specific, buddy. Austria had Socialist Bundeskanzlers from 1970-2000. I guess you mean Communists. As a former KPÖ member, I'd have to say that this borders on ASB. The Communists were always weak in Austria, not even with the help of the Soviets in 1947 were they able to mobilize a significant portion of the masses.
Partly because the KPÖ had few charismatic leaders and was, especially after the 60's dominated by ivory-tower intellectuals, and partly because the SPÖ still had a large left wing into the 70's and early 80's, thus keeping the KPÖ marginal.

Khrushchev wrote that the Communist party of the Soviet occupation zone was seen as part of the occupation, so had no chance to be an influence after the Soviets left.

So, either, not have a Soviet occupation zone, or not have them leave. In the later case, East Austria would be similar to East Germany.
