Ok so here's the proposal. Suppose that prince Ferdinand d'Orleans in his fatal carriage accident doesn't hit his head, and instead lands so that he survives. Can Ferdinand's popularity save the July Monarchy until he becomes king? Without Napoleon III seizing power in the Second Republic, does this mean that Piedmont's ambitions of a united Italy are dashed? How would Prussia react in its attempts to unify Germany? Thoughts?
