An obscure former member banned from AH.com years ago and who I'd had no idea about until stumbling about the following has created quite a fine peace of alternate history. The basic premise is Kim Jong-Il's assassination via a staged car accident in late 1987 and the subsequent stroke-induced death of his ruling father Kim Il-Sung in 1988.
The next Dear Leader essentially pulls a Gorbachev and the mentioned method of reunification proves an interesting idea on how to run it IOTL whenever Day X may come along. It's still running and recently made it to Reunficitation Day or at least what we'd call a Unity Treaty.
