  1. For All Mankind (AH Tv series at Apple TV)

I finally started watching this show. Really enjoyed Season 1, the last two episodes especially were nailbiters. I think the show is doing a pretty good job interweaving micro and macro dramas, with a lot of different perspectives. Lot of fun to watch, and a great outing for alternate history.
  2. An Organised and Comprehensive Effort

    I couldn't possibly comment.
  3. An Organised and Comprehensive Effort

Belgrade, Serbia 28 June 2001 1910 Local Time The landscape started get a lot more urban the closer they got to the center of Serbian governance. Sam had never spent a lot of time in Europe, but a more practiced eye might have identified the low slung row housing and apartment blocks as not...
  4. An Organised and Comprehensive Effort

Somewhere above Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina 28 June 2001 1835 Local Time “Adjusting course 15 degrees northeast towards the operating area. We’re going silent until necessary.” The other teams signaled their assent before doing the same. Wind buffeted the aircraft briefly before they finished...
  5. An Organised and Comprehensive Effort

Ladies and gentlemen, a narrative timeline set in the former Yugoslavia. The PoD will occur over the next few posts (well, it's already occurred, I just mean make itself apparent), and then after that I've got some wild ideas brewing for how the story might escalate further. I hope you guys...
  6. An Organised and Comprehensive Effort

    13. From 26 May 1995 through 19 June 1995, Bosnian Serb Forces under the command and control of General Ratko MLADIC seized and held over two hundred UN military observers and UN peacekeepers as hostages, following air strikes by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ("NATO") against Bosnian...
  7. World In Conflict: What happens next and other fronts of the war?

There was a time when I had a bunch of notes on the game, but never actually got around to writing the timeline I planned. I'll have to do it again, this thread has piqued my interest.
  8. World In Conflict: What happens next and other fronts of the war?

In disguised cargo ships. Have you played the game?
  9. World In Conflict: What happens next and other fronts of the war?

The Soviets are crushed in Seattle and soundly defeated in southern France, and I believe the end of Soviet Assault implicitly suggests that there are mutinies in the Soviet Union. Say as you want about the realism of that (the premise of the game is fairly ASB), but game canon is certainly that...
  10. Protect & Survive Miami: End of Watch

Take your time, it's a brilliantly written story.
  11. When the Wind Blew: a P&S Open Thread

Out of curiosity, is there any list anywhere of all Protect and Survive stories?
  12. The Hot War a lifetime later

This is a Turtledove story that definitely deserves an After The End timeline...which gives me some ideas.
  13. The Hot War a lifetime later

I must be the only one on this site who thoroughly enjoyed the Hot War series, Turtledovian flaws be damned.
  14. Map Thread XV

So I used to see maps like this floating around, except they were huge and significantly more detailed, and people appeared to have done them for most of the world. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or where I could find them? They tended to be regional, like a map of the Baltics, or a...
  15. Bright from Netflix

I didn't see what people found so objectionable about it. Generally I find superhero movie fan bases to be pretty toxic though, so I'm not really the general viewer.
  16. Bright from Netflix

With Suicide Squad and End of Watch under their belt you can be sure it'll be fun to watch, if not the deepest story ever. With LA being a pretty violent city on the frontlines of America's drug war, it makes a great setting for cop movies. End of Watch was utterly fantastic. Also, this guy...
  17. What woud the U.S military look like if they had been forced to fight wars in different terrain?

Essentially. Small unit combat is conceptually similar in the desert and in the jungle. The major change would be the US somehow never shifting focus from large unit combat.
  18. What woud the U.S military look like if they had been forced to fight wars in different terrain?

Again, the Abrams and the Humvee were more or less developed before the Middle Eastern conflicts, or at least concurrently to them, with no real emphasis in designing them for the Middle East (final specs were drawn in '79 for the Humvee, and prototypes of the Abrams were delivered in '76, when...
  19. What woud the U.S military look like if they had been forced to fight wars in different terrain?

Stealth aircraft weren't really designed with respect to the Middle Eastern conflicts, although we do use them because they're in our arsenal. Stealth aircraft were designed with regards to nations with significant aerial defense capabilities, like Russia or China, who US military planners still...
  20. What woud the U.S military look like if they had been forced to fight wars in different terrain?

US military structure would remain largely the same, as it has in every small war since Korea. The US military would just design its equipment differently. Armored vehicles would be jungle green instead of desert tan, ditto for standard camouflage. The Logistics chain working in most of Central...
