  1. explain this map.... if you dare.

Id say the WWIII is a US/ROK/ROC/PRC/DPRK war that occurs a few years after a Korean armistice falls apart. DPRK ceases to exist and China collapses from the economic and military strain. Korea is united under the enlightened leadership of Rhee Sygman. China collapses into warlordism except...
  2. Oil ends in the nineties

No! We develop an alcohol cartel. Call it OAEC and fuck with all the other countries by jacking around with production from time to time!
  3. Oil ends in the nineties

Concur. Some sort of alcohol based vegetable product is the most likely solution. Either that or gasoline engines that are massively more efficient than those we use now.
  4. Oil ends in the nineties

Well, Im not being completely inconsistant. My position is that corporations act in their own self interest. Almost always, this benefits all. In this case, it probably doesnt. At lower end of my conspiracy theory on this is the idea that necessity is the mother of invention. You hit on...
  5. No Spam

Ughhhhhh! I hate Treet. Tastes horrible. The Republic of Korea is the second biggest consumer of Spam (after the US). They produce a Spam knock off called "Assi Haem". Its pretty rancid too. I like Spam though. I eat it raw on sandwiches with mustard or wasabi (Japanese horseradish).
  6. No Spam

But consider this: 1. Spam has become a popular meat product in every nation that had American soldiers deployed in it except Japan. What does this do to US cultural imperialism? 2. What if Monty Python doesnt have the Spam song?
  7. What Happened to the Del Rey Web Site???

I hung out on the Del Rey AH Web Site quite a bit when I was in school. It was a pretty rocking place. Now it gets 1-2 posts a month? What happened???
  8. No Spam

Im not talking the email sort. What if the delicious and heavanly luncheon meat was never invented?
  9. Oil ends in the nineties

Heres what I think would happen. Suddenly, a new fuel source would be "found". Cars would start being fueled by used cooking oil, dirty socks, blood plasma, or something else weird and mundane. Regulation of nuke power would loosen and there would be more nuke power plants. This is my one...
  10. Oil ends in the nineties

Why would we take Saddam's oil when we had Kuwait in the bag in 1991?
  11. Canada More like the USA

For what its worth, I have no problems with the way Canadians go about running their country. Dont think I would like to live in such a system, but it seems to work for most Canadians. Thats the important thing. Had to share this one. One of my compatriots just said being Canadian is like...
  12. The Chunnel:1939

What if the Chunnel is operating on the eve of World WarII?
  13. Queen of Canada but not of England

How about a revolution in the UK that forces the royals out and they go to Canada? How about if Sea Lion succeeds and the monarchy packs its bags?
  14. Busted!

The ROTC building isnt burned down and the hippies get released because the government is too scared to prosecute. Everything else spools out essentially the same way as OTL.
  15. Canada More like the USA

Problem here Ian is I used the term "intervention" and not "intrusive". Given the fight in the US over nationalized healthcare and the Patriot Act, I stand by my statement. As to nationalized v. private healthcare, Ive had experience with both and prefer the private for about the same...
  16. Canada More like the USA

Well, theyre quite a bit more alike than say Americans and Laotians or Canadians and Ugandans. But there are differences.
  17. Canada More like the USA

How about this. Slavery somehow becomes a big issue in Canada. Was slavery ever allowed in Canada? I would think so at some point and time. Or how about strong America-like Manifest Destiny where they start pushing around their Indians?
  18. Canada More like the USA

As we know, Canadians are in many ways polar opposites of Americans. Canadians are comfortable with government intervention in their lives while Americans tend to be distrustful of it. Americans have much more faith in the free markets (not to say Canadians are not, just much less so)...
  19. Civil rights movement- more successful in North

Theres an old saying that has a nugget of truth in it. Whites in the South didnt care how well off blacks became so long as they didnt have to live near them. Whites in the North didnt care where blacks lived so long as they stayed poor. Perhaps if MLK and company sought to improve the lot of...
  20. Could US win in Vietnam?

While its obvious the post 1975 Vietnamese Anschluss was not as bad as Cambodia's national suicide attempt, it was still pretty bad. Summary executions after the fall of Saigon were in the 10,000+ range. And then there are the Gulags and systematic destruction of the Montagnard cultures. Add...
