How Isolated Would Vinland be in the Little Ice Age?

Given that, as I understand it, the local Indian tribes of mainland New Brunswick and Maine would have already been consuming tobacco, both produced locally and imported from further south, I think the "eventuality" here is sooner rather than later. It's almost inevitable that very early on in...

How Isolated Would Vinland be in the Little Ice Age?

Iron probably wouldn't make it all the way to Europe, it would largely tamp out at Iceland, and even then it won't dominate because it's going to probably be more economical to just import from mainland Europe. Vinlanders would between bog iron and local deposits find iron enough for domestic...

WI: Five Civilized Tribes Accept US Citizenship/National Dissolution?

Well I have to wonder, because a lot of this (at least in specifics) does seem to hinge on Jackson personally: What do you think the Removal situation looks like if Clay ends up in office? Choctaw have already signed Dancing Rabbit Creek, but none of the other treaties have yet been ratified...

WI: Five Civilized Tribes Accept US Citizenship/National Dissolution?

Very interesting. I was aware of Georgia's agreement with the federal government (and had mentioned it in my OP), but had still assumed that the Cherokee residing in Georgia would have been offered citizenship if they were remaining. Didn't really think through the apparent contradiction between...

WI: Five Civilized Tribes Accept US Citizenship/National Dissolution?

Thanks! The whol situation is indeed a lot more nuanced and interesting then is generally seen, being usually rolled up into an amorphous crime-against-humanity blob. It looks like you're right, and my understanding of the guarantees of voluntary citizenship were vastly overstated. First...

Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

I could be mistaken but I think the thinking was, as part of a general linguistic and orthographic reform to formalize AAVE, they would abolish the hard C. Not because of anything particular to AAVE, just because it was pointless to have in addition to K and you might as well get rid of excess...

WI: Five Civilized Tribes Accept US Citizenship/National Dissolution?

But perhaps it cuts in just hte opposite direction: The few smallholders (or squatters in some cases, who did not formally gain title to an allotment but remained behind anyway) who remained were small in number and very easy targets for violence, but with much larger populations surely they...

WI: Five Civilized Tribes Accept US Citizenship/National Dissolution?

~Preamble~ The removal of the Five Civilized Tribes and the resulting "Trail of Tears" is regarded as one of the more shameful episodes in America's already sordid and shameful history of relations with the American Indians. Indeed, even at the time many across the country, most especially in...

AHC: Make Bridgerton realistic. Africans intermix with European nobility.

As others say, it's very difficult to conceive of such a scenario with a POD later than the 15th century. You basically need time for a Christian African state to cohere (whether that be Ethiopia, Kongo, or some 3rd/novel candidate), go-a-conquering and convert large numbers of people to...

    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

The subtitle "The First Societies" is rather amusing for this late a date.

I do feel like, as a general critique of the map itself, that I would like to see more of that classic B Munro style "problematizing"/representing complication in the core European region proper. As it stands it's one of the better Hyborian Age worldmaps out there, though.

The Prospect of Development in 19th Century Liberia

It would be extremely generous to call the Liberian colonization scheme "harebrained." To obviate the racial issues that the Slave Power had created for America, a colony in Africa would be established to resettle freed slaves away from white society where blacks could establish their own...

Pre-Columbian Native American cultures, PODs and alternate histories discussion

Don't Chile and Patagonia already have guanacos? While I don't they were domesticated in Patagonia, it seems like if pigs reached Patagonia they would reach it as feral animals. So I don't see why it would kick-start domestication, seems like it would just be a new wild protein source.

Like that you're doing this. Historic coastlines should be paid more attention to. Would be neat if you would start doing this in WorldA format, though obviously that's a tremendous pain.
