Red Coat: A Brief History of A World (Indonesia & World TL)

Chapter I: A Midnight Call
Chapter I:
A Midnight Call
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my first timeline so sorry if I'm mistaken in some of this stories!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
30th September 1965, 23.45 P.M

A knock is heard at a door and a man answered it saying, "Yes, who are you to come here at the middle of the night?!"

The young man in a military uniform then replied, "Sorry General but the President has ordered you to meet him at the palace right now!"

The General sighed and said, "Wait for a moment for me to change."

The general then went to his room to see his awakened daughter who was sleeping with him after his wife left for a party. She asked him, "Who is it?"

The general then explained while he is changing, "It's one of Soekarno's men, he has ordered my presence at the palace.."

"This early?" His daughter confused with Soekarno at summoning her father this early.

The general said to her, "he has been hard to sleep for some time so I expected this. Just go back to sleep okay, I'll see you at the morning." He kissed her and left.

The aide then asked the general, "General Ahmad Yani, are you ready?"

General Ahmad Yani then said to the young aide, "Yes, Let's go now!"

Just before he went off, Ahmad Yani saw a young man across the street sleeping, lazy boy.

They didn't realized that President Soekarno's midnight call will change the direction of not only Indonesia but the world too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a timeline in which General Ahmad Yani, the army leader and one of the main targets of the Indonesian Communist Party purge later in the morning went to Soekarno few hours before the purge happened so they missed him and the guard which was guarding his home had fell asleep.

In OTL, Ahmad Yani was murdered on 4.00 A.M

In OTL too Soekarno had ordered Ahmad Yani to the Palace but at the next morning but in TTL Soekarno can't sleep so he ordered Yani to come earlier.

Interesting start. I wonder if Yani will take the same measures Suharto took to purge the communism from politics and Indonesia itself.

Yani will have his Communist purges but Yani is more of a Soekarnoist so he will have some mercy to some Communist and socialists (mostly socialists)

Soekarno, Ahmad Yani, Nasution making their infamous "Blood and Sweat" Speech

"This Act of Blatant Idiocy and Evil by the Communists Will be Repayed by Blood and Sweat!"

- General Ahmad Yani, accompanied by Soekarno and Minister Nasution after their attempted murders.

The Indonesian public even the President didn't realized that the Communist had striked 5 generals with only Abdul Haris Nasution, the Defence Minister and General Ahmad Yani but at the cost of Nasution's aide, Pierre Tandean and his daughter Ade Irma to be killed by the PKI.

The President was surprised and horrified at the act and quickly ordered General Yani who was already present at the palace to find and order the arrests of the Communists and to call Nasution immediately to the palace. Yani called the army to find the perpetrators of this act and bring them not to the President but to Yani first for "questioning" Then he called his home to see if everything was alright and to his relief it was but their was an attempted entry to the home only to find it empty without the general.

After that, the general went back to President Soekarno who was seating outside of the palace and told him that the operation is underway and that they're finding them right away but then Yani said to the President that he was a taget by the communists, Yani bluffed alright but it was the only way to make his paranoia set on to the communists and it worked because later that noon Soekarno, Ahmad Yani, and Nasution all condemned the action and Soekarno immediately banned the communist party that same day without Parliaments approval but everybody knew that he held the power so...

Most Communists were either in disbelief or outraged by the statement of Soekarno and it made them more weaker in the public's eye because even their former Ally and the country's leader had opposed the party. It forced the leaders to either flee to the countryside or overseas if able (most were captured on sea) including Aidit and the plots leader, Colonel Untung.

The bodies of the generals were unfortunately found dead two days later on Lubang Buaya near the Capital. Soekarno was ordered not to leave the palace until further notice, making him a prisoner by orders of Yani.

Minister Nasution and General Yani worked zealously because of the attacks on their homes, especially Nasution who was still visibly angry and sad because of his daughter's death but they had no lead where and who the leaders are until a young colonel came by their office.

Sidenote:

The radio stations which were taken by the communists OTL were taken also ITTL but with an exception, Radio Republik Indonesia which ITTL was guarded by a more alarmed and ready army by Yani so the message by the Soekarno, Yani and Nasution was received by the nation

Presidential Nominee Barry Goldwater during his acceptance speech at the RNC, San Diego, 1964

"Do you want to make a point or do you want to make a change? do you want to get something off your chest, or do you want to get something done?"

-Former Vice President Richard M. Nixon, 1964 on Michigan

To say that America was in deep s@#$ wasn't entirely true nor it was entirely wrong but after the assassination of President Kennedy, the torch was passed to his vice, Lyndon Baines Johnson, former Senate Majority Leader and a fierce man. He continued a lot of Kennedy's popular decisions such as Civil Rights and The Great Society which was heralded by him but he faced stiff resistance on the former because of resistance by the dixiecrats (southern democrats) who was fiercely anti-civil rights. He faced resistance but passed a Civil Rights bill in 1964, cementing african-americans to the Democrats but as LBJ said himself, "We have just lost the south for a generation." He didn't follow Kennedy only on one huge decision, Vietnam. LBJ fiercely fought to keep the Americans there even deploying more troops there, these decisions will haunt him 4 years later.

The democratic process reached America on 1964 and the Democrats were certainly nominating LBJ with only token opposition with George Wallace defeated on every turn. LBJ faced stiff resistance to nominate Bobby Kennedy, AG and brother of deceased popular President Kennedy but LBJ said that he won't nominate anyone from his cabinet so his choices were down to 2 people, Hubert Humphrey and Thomas Dodd. LBJ chose the surprised candidate, Thomas Dodd because he thought that the Smiling Warrior should stay and fight for him on the senate, becoming majority leader the next year.

The Republicans on the other side were a mess with a flurry of candidates showing up like, Governor of New York, Nelson Rockefeller and Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater but there was a surprise candidate, Richard Milhouse Nixon. He had pulled himself out of politics after his failed 1962 gubernatorial race but decided to enter the presidential election saying that he was the most electable candidate on the race, saying that Rockefeller was a Liberal and Goldwater was a Radical Warmonger.

He had a huge start but suddenly on a campaign stump on Michigan, Nixon was shot by a Solomon Porter, a victim of the McCarthy-Nixon hearings during his tenure on the hill. Nixon was pronounced dead on the scene. This made the race interesting because of the death of the front runner with later a competitive primary which resulted in a surprise win by Goldwater. He chose a moderate, Governor George Romney of Michigan as his running mate, an ally of Rockefeller.

In short, Goldwater was decimated at the general election. He was branded as a Radical by LBJ and with the infamous "daisy" ad which potrayed him as a radical warmonger and with previous statements by Nixon calling him a radical certainly didn't help him. Congressional and Senate Democrats also cheered a huge victory, giving LBJ a huge mandate for the next 4 years.
