WI:Dom Pedro II die in Paraguayan War

In 1865, going against the advices of his ministers, Dom Pedro II travel to the Brazilian city of Uruguaiana, that has been taken by the paraguayans but was in siege by Brazilian Army, where he ride his horse in distance of a paraguayan rifle shoot, but the soldiers doesn’t shoot. His participation on the war earned to him the title of “First Volunteer of the homeland”.
What if he dies while stay in the region attacked by the paraguayans? How this would affect the conclusion of the war, the internal politics of Brazil (considering that Dona Isabel was only 19 years old and has married less than 1 year before)? And how the gradual slavery abolition reforms would be affected?

Dona Isabel wasn't educated to rule IIRC, so she'll likely be very hands off regarding Parliament and such. Which means that (most) political power would fall in the hands of the Prime Minister. Was there any single one of them that could've been a potential reformer?

Dona Isabel and her sister were both educated to rule, there are records or their classes, what they were taught ,who was the tutor, how much they were payed, their daikly schedule and so on. If you read Portuguese ,i suggest the book: " Princesas Isabel e Leopoldina, Mulheres Educadas para Governar" from jaqueline Vieira de Alencar,it tells much much about the girls education!

Interesting.

The monarchy might be viewed with more sympathy with Pedro II perishing in battle.

It had popular sympathy, what it lacked was the patronage of a powerful elite,it was transitioning it´s support from the rural elite to the nascent, more liberal and progressive urban one.The Republic was a coup, the former slave owner latitudinarians backing the the positivist part of the ,army, pure and straight opportunist act.
