What if instead of buying Star Wars in 2012, Disney bought the Star Trek Franchise instead?
How would they handle the Abrams-verse movies, Discovery, and STO?
How would they handle the Abrams-verse movies, Discovery, and STO?
Okay, how bout this?It made money for Paramount and Viacom, so it would be incredibly difficult for Disney to get the rights for Star Trek at this juncture. Perhaps the purchase should be made earlier.
Nemesis was not important. It was Enterprise that killed Star Trek. Star Trek is a tc series first and movie franchise second.Okay, how bout this?
Disney buys Star Trek after the failure of Nemesis?
So Disney would view Star Trek as a dead franchise?Nemesis was not important. It was Enterprise that killed Star Trek. Star Trek is a tc series first and movie franchise second.
That said, why would anyone want to buy a franchise that failed? Star Trek was effectively dead for almost a decade. The movie was a pretty big gamble. There are lots of movies made with the same kind of budget that flopped. So I don't think Disney would care for such a failed Franchise. Star Wars and Marvel were both doing well when Disney bought them.
Somewhat more, besides the fact that the star trek rights would be split, which would either make it a very hard deal to buy both or Disney would have to buy only the movie or tv rights, which would be a lot less attractive (and that's besides the fact that it does not seems the kind of franchise Disney would buy.So Disney would view Star Trek as a dead franchise?
So the 2012 idea is somewhat more plausible?
The first POD is intriguing and if Disney's careful it could avoid the shit that dragged down Voyager and Enterprise.there two POD in this scenario
One, 1994 Disney under Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group buy Paramount in 1994 from Gulf+Western.
it's make some logical sense that Disney do this, because Paramount has large distributor for Cinemas, also international under United International Pictures.
also there large distributor for VHS-tapes under CIC Video, a market Disney expanded in that time
next to that Tv production and rights to franchise like STAR TREK, what is good because Disney buy TV channel ABC in 1990, so they can produce also own shows.
Ironic Disney CEO Michael Eisner worked before that at Paramount as studio chief.
Two, 2005 while disastrous STAR TREK: Enterprise is canceled, under goes Viacom harsh reform and Paramount broken up into its separate assets.
here a Viacom financial Manager could look on STAR TREK franchise and find last TV series (ST Enterprise) last Move (TNG Nemesis 2002) Bombs totally.
he can get to wrong conclusion the franchise is valueless and Sell it.
Disney new CEO Bob Iger spearheaded negotiations that led Disney to acquire the STAR TREK franchise.
only would then Disney buy also Marvel Comics or Lucasfilm ?
