Say that one of the Irish rebellions against Tudor rule is successful (maybe one of the Desmond Rebellions and the Nine Years' War) and kicks the English out of the island. What would an independent Irish kingdom that is founded in the mid to late 16th century look like? I assume it would have an agriculturural economy and be very decentralized politically, at least at first. Who would the king be, the noble who led the rebellion or some Catholic prince imported from Europe (probably a Habsburg)? Could they maybe even found a colony somewhere in the Americas?
