Given how Germany and the Einheitspakt can only 'win' the Cold War by having the US and OFN be so exhausted that they retreat into isolationism/be facing so much domestic unrest that they will be paralyzed internationally... Giving the Americans yet ANOTHER nation rebuilding money-sink right there in their backyard to waste their blood and treasure on, instead of having Columbia as a productive member that American companies can profitably trade and invest in, will still indirectly be a win for Germania.
In fact, the more I think about it, the more I am thinking that especially for Japan and the Co-Prosperity Sphere, their Cold War foreign policy can be viewed as one of '
containment'. Why does Japan aid the likes of Ayatollah Khomeini and his Islamist in Iran, and the Pan-Africanist in Camaroon? Well, knowing that the Co-Prosperity Sphere cannot really be a global alliance network the same way that OFN is, Japan can still help install nationalist/reactionary regimes that will effectively 'lock off' their nation from American economic, political, and most importantly, military influence... And if zaibatsus can get a few trade deals and exclusive resource extraction rights out of this, as well as boaster Japan's public image as the leader of an 'anti-colonial movement against the West', all the better.
