The first years of independence were rife with turmoil for Spain's former colonies in the Americas, with civil and foreign wars breaking out somewhere every few years. One such conflict, born from longstanding border disputes and a clash for hegemony over their corner of South America, was fought between Peru and Gran Colombia from June 1828 to February 1829.

The war went off to a strong start for Peru, whose navy blockaded and captured the port of Guayaquil. Their army, meanwhile, occupied the cities of Loja and Cuenca, in what is now southern Ecuador. However, their advance stalled after the Battle of Tarqui, and the war ended with both sides abandoning their territorial claims.

But what if the Peruvians scored a victory at Tarqui (the battle was a stalemate IOTL) and kept up their offensive? Could they occupy Quito itself, or would they content themselves with securing their hold over Guayaquil and southern Ecuador? I assume they'd annex Bolivia, since many prominent Peruvians wanted to unite the two countries. Said union would probably be an outright annexation, rather than the confederation that was created IOTL.

Finally, what would happen to Gran Colombia? My guess is it'd fall apart earlier, given the inevitable aftershock of such a defeat.
