Modern German is based off of a literary dialect, that doesn’t mean that Modern German is invented, it was just based off of a dialect that most people didn’t traditionally speak. Standardization is a weird thing.
From what Condottioero says it sounds like Modern Basque is basically a constructed new language with words based from every dialect rather than basing it off an existing dialect like you mentioned here with German. I guess it might be comparable to modern hebrew, which has been constructed based on various dialects and loanwords? at the same time it's probably based mainly around old hebrew. So who knows

Second Eldian Empire (1).png

Here's a fictional map I made for Attack on Titan in commemoration of the awesome new Season 4 trailer that just came out. This was something I came up with while brainstorming for my Attack on Titan fic: A Noble Son of Eldia.

Its basically where the people of Paradis island successfully pull off a Meiji Restoration style reform and industrialize. Through the Founding Titan's Powers, the new Eldian Empire enacts a small-scale rumbling utilizing a Portion of the Colossus Titans within the Walls to begin their march into the mainland to liberate their fellow Eldians from the Jackboot of the Marleyans and to restore Eldia to its rightful place. Through the use of the Wall Titans and a coalition of Marley's opponents, the Second Eldian Empire has conquered and occupied large sections of the Coast.

Thanks to the various Eldian patriots discontent at Marleyan oppression, the new Eldian Empire was able to bring down Marley from within by fueling internal unrest while also reigniting the Eldian national consciousness. This lead to a Civil War breaking out within Marley following the defeat of its main army at the hands of the Royal Eldian Army during the Battle for Liberio. This victory brought new hope for the Eldians living within Marley who began to rebel en-masse throwing open their gates to the advancing Eldian army. The Marleyan government now on the brink of collapse desperately scrambles to put up a fight against its many enemies from within and without.

Not really sure if these Solar System maps fit in here 100%, but I'll toss this in.

What if Pluto was too big to be considered to be a planet?
9diveeujdy251.png

Far beyond the orbit of Neptune, there lies a massive plethora of icy bodies and rocks in a region known as the Kuiper belt, but there is one lord that rules the dark depths of the solar system. Only appearing visible for once every six hundred years, the massive body named Pluto was formally discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, although it is likely that earlier astronomers have cataloged it when it was visible. Pluto was theorized to be the source of the disturbances that caused the orbital anomalies with Neptune and perhaps Uranus, so it was hunted for many times earlier.

Taking a closer look, it seemed like Pluto was no ordinary object. The world, or star, is a gargantuan hulk, having 20 times the mass of Jupiter, the next largest planet in the solar system. Astronomers in 2005 have declassified Pluto as a planet (stirring up quite a bit of controversy) and instead created a new term which it fits, a ‘Hadal’ (OTL Brown Dwarf). Hadals are somewhat crossed between planets and stars, and they are theorized to have undergone stellar fusion once in their lives. The Hadal has a highly eccentric orbit around the sun, coming 97 AU at Perihelion and going as far as 722 AU at Aphelion. The New Horizons orbiter visited Pluto in the year 2025, when the Hadal was near Perihelion, allowing for quick access. Pluto is magenta in color, and appears to be somewhat of a cross between a planet and a star, as Hadals are. Unlike planets, Pluto generates heat at its surface, reaching temperatures of up to 1700 degrees Celsius. Indeed, it warms up some of the planets in what could be called its own mini solar system. The object is slightly larger than Jupiter, at 152,832 km, although it is much more dense and massive.

The closest body to Pluto is the planet Cerberus, a huge body between the size of Mars and Venus at around 8,340 km in diameter. Cerberus is tidally locked to Pluto, and it even possesses a very thin mars-like atmosphere on one side heated by the world it orbits. The atmosphere is made of Nitrogen, and it’s surface is composed of water ice on the side. As you travel further from the atmosphere, the terrain becomes more rugged and the nitrogen fuses to the ice. There is also a large concentration of Tholins on this side.

Proserpina is the second world in Pluto’s little solar system. It is similar to Titan, albeit a little larger and with much more methane oceans. The object is 5,293 km in diameter, and is covered in a thick layer of nitrogen and methane gas, trapping a decent amount of heat inside which warms the planet up to higher temperatures than the other Plutonian satellites and with a pressure of 23 bars. The world is similar to Titan, except it is 75% covered with seas of liquid nitrogen.

The third and fourth moons from Pluto are Vidus and Larenta, each roughly the size of Earth’s own moon. Vidus is mainly composed of rocky ice and Larenta is half covered in tholins, which are sprinkled throughout the moon, giving it a spotty appearance. Both of these moons are home to fairly large amounts of cryovolcanoes. Between the two smaller worlds and the next major body is the Styx belt, which is similar to the Asteroid belt around the sun, albeit a lot more icer. There are not many big bodies in the Styx belt, and the largest asteroid is only 200 km across.

The fifth major body from Pluto is the largest one, the ice giant Charon. Charon is a little smaller than Neptune and Uranus, at 43,754 km in diameter. The world is a dull indigo, and is home to large concentrations of fusion fuels. Charon is orbited by 23 moons, with three major ones being Hamlet (430 km), Othello (2,376 km) and Macbeth (1,212 km). These moons were of course named after Shakespearean characters, similar to Uranus’s moons.

(Sidenote: As I am a lazy ass, I decided to go reuse some old models of planets I made earlier, which is why if you can’t tell already, Othello and Macbeth are actually OTL Pluto and Charon. Charon just captured them at some point, similar to what happened with Triton for Neptune. I also felt like I had to keep the old Pluto alive, so here he is)

Beyond Charon’s orbit, there lies the Acheron belt, which is Pluto’s rough analog to the Kuiper belt. This sphere extends from 0.5 AU to 5 AU from Pluto, and it is home to many small icy bodies. The largest three of these are Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, which are each between 1,000 and 2,000 km across, similar to the main Uranian moons. The Acheron belt is also home to many comets which whizz into Pluto’s inner satellites.

The last major body of Pluto’s mini solar system is the world of Orpheus, at the very edge of Pluto’s hill sphere. Orpheus is actually quite massive, being the size of Venus, and it orbits Pluto at an eccentric 100 year period, which can take it as far as 30 AU away from the Hadal. The world is similar to Europa, and has a very massive subsurface ocean with quite a bit of tidal activity generated from its Mars sized moon/binary companion, Eurydice. But, below the ice, there lies a massive secret.

The Pluto system was first reached by humans in the year 2144, when a joint mission by the Indonesian and Filipino space exploration teams landed on the Charonian moon of Othello, followed by further missions to the Styx belt, the Acheron belt, Larenta, Vidus, Proserpina and Cerberus. Not much really came out of these missions, aside from being a simple mission about exploration and bragging rights. Pluto was not colonised until the 23rd century, which was done by Africans, Selenites, Martians and Neptunians, when the first city of Oko was established on Proserpina.

Things forever changed in the year 2235, when a drill penetrated the dense layer of ice on Orpheus and uncovered something astonishing. There were what seemed to be artificial structures under the ice, and a discovery of a sentient coral like lifeforms with a large hive mind like intelligence. More of these coral lifeforms were discovered under the planet, and communication was established to them by the citizens of New Tycho on the surface. These life forms were named the Orphi, and they seemed to be ancient, having first developed sentience up to 100 million years ago, although they seem to lack any technology whatsoever. The Orphi haven't really moved on from their primitive ways, but a couple hundred minds have settled into sharing a world with the humans and their creations, and some have even migrated to the inner solar system.
Plutonian civilization today is geared towards interstellar colonization, and they are the main port of exit toward the stars. Charon and its moons have the largest shipbuilding industries in the solar system, with massive arkships being towed and fueled in its orbits, while colonial societies enjoy waiting on the casinos and hotel cities of Vidus, which is supplied with Larenta’s massive agricultural industries, all of which is regulated by the supercomputing stock markets and industries of Proserpina. Cerberus is currently in the process of terraforming, which is planned to be done by the crazy idea of plunging it near Pluto to warm up and blasting it with Proserpini nitrogen. Pluto and its satellites are now a bustling metropolis in the void, a civilization in the depths of the hell that is wild space.

So, getting things back on track. Got some freetime tonight, figured I'd upload a little gif teaser for a map I've been working off and on for about a year or so.

A sequel in ways to my old Back By Next Christmas Map, but this time with a science fiction and dystopian future! The exactness of that will be explained in the final writeup, hope yall like humans relocating to Mars to escape complete nuclear destruction. In the end, blame the Union of American Socialist Republics and the Empire of Russia.

Here's a map I made for my Napoleon II Timeline (link below in my signature): Imperator Francorum regarding Italy prior to the 1848 Revolutions
Basically the pod for this alternate history timeline is that Emperor Napoleon dies at Leipzig leading his men in battle right as he's about to emerge. This defeat seas the French Empire begin a summary collapse without the leadership and presence of its Emperor to unify the various people and political groups under it. Now without strong leadership and an army to defend it against the Coalition, the Empire imploded. In Italy, Napoleon's stepson Eugene de Beauharnais inspired by his father figure who in ttl died as a martyr for France and the Revolution, stayed loyal choosing to fight on where he beat invasions by the Austrians from the East, and a combined Anglo-Sardinian invasion force from the West. Though he was done in when he was betrayed by fellow French Marshal Murat the King of Naples. Murat who upon the insistence of his wife opened up his Kingdom to the British soon declared war upon him. Seeing that his position was no longer tenable, Eugene surrendered to the Coalition and fled to Bavaria where he was given title by his father in law the King.

This subsequent betrayal by Murat turned him into a figure of scorn within France and birthed the infamous rivalry/blood-feud between the Houses of Bonaparte and Murat that would come to define the Italian Wars of the mid 19th Century. Thanks to Murat's duplicitous betrayal in defeating the renegade Eugene, he was confirmed by the powers of the Congress of Vienna as King of Naples much to the anger of the Bourbons of Sicily who had been stripped of their ancestral Kingdom. During the Congress, It was decided that Austria would be granted Northern Italy, with its various Italian client-states re-established making it the nominal overlord of the region much to the ire of the Italians living under Habsburg Rule.

In accordance with the new Conservative Order envisioned at the Congress of Vienna, the Papal States were restored, giving the Holy See its de-jure territories in Central Italy back under its control.

The Kingdom of Sardinia which historically had its own aspirations such as the conquest of Milan, was in a difficult position sandwiched between the French Empire in the West, and the Austrian Empire in the East. Being one of the few truly independent and somewhat reform-minded Italian states, it alongside Naples became a hot-bead for Italian Revolutionary groups such as the Cabonari. And thanks to the French Revolution, clamors for a unified Italy became popular, but it was not clear as to whom would now unify Italy since there were multiple potential claimants in Italy.

In the South there was the Liberal minded Kingdom that had prospered thanks to heavy British investments and the many reforms implemented thanks to the Napoleonic system. Though despite this progress, the burgeoning Kingdom faced threats in the form of the discontent Bourbon Kings of Sicily who saw the Murats as nothing more than usurpers while in the North, the reactionary Papal States, eyed the Revolutionary Kingdom of Naples with suspicion.

In France itself, a new Empire was proclaimed. Following the July Revolutions of 1830, the last vestiges of the Ancien Regime were overthrown by the glorious Eaglet Emperor Napoleon who triumphantly restored order to France and brought it years of peace and internal stability. Having spent 18 years under his careful rule, France had increased its industrial production while also working tirelessly to rebuild its military strength in the hopes of avenging the humiliation of Leipzig. While the Revolutionaries organized within Italy, the looming shadow of Napoleon II hung over them as he had the strongest claim to the Italian throne after being Crowned in infancy by his Father soon after his birth. Italy like it has been for centuries has been fragmented and partitioned among foreign powers into territories and spheres of influence.

Thanks! Yeah, I feel like fantastical Earth is a really underused setting that should get more love than it does. There's something about mixing the fictional with the familiar that just feels satisfying.
I am working on an alternate earth scenario ( familiar but not OTL) - I need a simple basic map and some basic map for dummies help
Europe initially as roughly OTL borders except Germany (balkanised) and a united netherlands (NL + BE) aka 'Burgandy'

what is the easiest way to do many of the maps on here are much better than I need and will be my first attempt to illustrate my AH -

There are lots of map templates on the AH wiki you can use to start off with, and a few modified basemaps I've made myself if you're looking for something more that style. There isn't really so much a right and wrong choice, it falls down to your personal tastes, though I would recommend more detailed basemaps in general.

MS Paint is what I mostly use for the basic legwork of a map, since it's so simplistic and light. It's a good enough program to do a lot of basic things, but for anything more complex it'll be a lot easier to use gimp, since it has a lot more tools available. Being able to use layers is a big one. This is all just personal preference again, though, I know a lot of people on this site use different programs to achieve different styles.

Peace, Land, and Bread: The heeding words for the proletariat as Lenin arrived at the city of Petrograd. Once a valiant cause for all the working class now falters under the heap of shrieking madness and utter disappointment. His death was a great loss to all the working class, and his absences of any sincere revolution have lured scheming revisionists like Bukharin and Kerensky to exploit his legacy. The syndicalist also laughs at his fall, despite their pretense of sorrow and grief, smirking behind curtains like a despot laughing behind the worker's back. And as France and Britain sloths away in their so-called revolution, their impotence has left the working class under the mercy of the Huns and the despicable Entente patiently waiting for its downfall. But amid the follies of idiocy, one union stands mighty upon the tallest hill, embraced by the beckoning sun as it shines behind their shoulders.

Chairman Iosif V. Dzhugashvili - the Chairman of Georgia, took the initiative to lead the remaining vanguard of the workers to glory and prosperity. A wise philosopher and greatest student of Lenin, he is the sole teacher of his people and the sole patron that molds the very foundation that will become his future union. His philosophical wisdom is matched his immense knowledge of warfare. He guides his generals like a muse conducting his orchestra, demonstrating his martial prowess with such immense detail and precision that even his compatriots gazed his tactics with awe, comparing it to the likes of Alexander the Great during the Battle of Gaugamela. He's also a man that has performed the greatest of Olympian feats, shooting a feeble stag from 100 kilometers and triumphant in his brawl against a mighty bear, descending his steel fist against the beast's whimpering face while his entourage cowers behind his stead.

Under the command of the Virtuous Marshall, Lavrentiy Beria, the People’s Guard united the Caucasus in a swift and decisive strike. First, they liberated Armenia from Nzhdeh's reactionary, descending the calvary of the proletariat like the Companions of Greece during the times of antiquity. Second, he demolished the decadent regime of the bourgeoise ruling over Azerbaijan, free the people from the so-called democratic institutions. And with the helping hand of the Cairo Pact, he liberated Lazistan and Kars from the Turks after the decisive Battle of Trebizond under General Jugheli's command. The scene of their calvary charge was described as a sea of heroes manifesting into a glorious tsunami. The Egyptians and the Persians were amazed by such feats of courage as we pierced through the sham trenches and starving Turks like knight cleaving through the dragon's heart.

Under the newly-formed Great Transcaucasian Socialist State, or Transcaucasia for short, Dzhugashvili has turned his country into the worker's utopia: A world where the proletariats are free from the decadent influence of the bourgeoisie swept clean by his most patriotic. Culture prospered under the visage of his party. People from all corners of the country funneled to Tbilisi to celebrate its diversity: The Armenians, Georgians, and Azeris marched in a massive parade to brandish their traditions with pride and without discerning diatribe from the West, performing mass games in thousands of pageantries and cultural exchanges where the people form a perfect harmony with one another. Religion is respected as the cornerstone of this new socialist republic as the Chairman conducted interfaith talks to unite the two faiths against the Bourgeoisie. All this to promote a new proletarian culture: A way of life that rejects the vanity and hedonism embraced by the fools in Europe and to form a new society based on industry and honesty. Life in the Caucasus is as stern as Dzhugashvili's due to their participation in the country's revolutionary reconstruction. The workers and peasants have reformed to become the New Man of Socialism, becoming an example for many socialist throughout the world.

His achievements did not end there, however. With the benevolent guidance of the Supreme Economic Council, the Chairman rebuilds the country from a backwater wasteland to an industrious powerhouse. Many socialist across the world were speechless as none could match the smell of industry that exhumes from Tbilisi. Hundreds of factories cover the plains and the thick smokes coming out from their chimneys are long enough to blot the sun. There, the choirs of cluttering machinery muse a melody that entices the workers to smite steel with great pride and strength. The sheer sense of community and productivity has driven men and women to become Olympians as their physique is chiseled from neck to foot, bearing the strength of Hephaestus as they carve crude steel into fine art. And from the shores of Baku to the snows of Sochi, the people carouse through the country under the First Transcaucasian Highway, built to flow the trade and industry to the people's hand. The ZIS-110, also known as the People's Car, was made for the comfort of his people as they meander throughout the country under the highways. Rifles and tanks are manufactured from its jaws, to provide the men with arms to defend the nation from counter-revolutionary invasions and revisionism. Televisions and radio were gifted to everyone to enjoy the entertainment made for the working men.

The Chairman has carved a utopia where men are free to receive the value that matches the efforts of their labor, but many are suffering under the clutches of the bourgeoisie. In a world where the imperialist is cruel and the syndicalists have become slothful, only the union resides on the shinning beacon hope. One day, the world shall tremble under the might of the proletariat. One day, the Totalist will rise against both the decadent machination of the Bourgeoisie and the impotent forces of the Syndicalist. This wretched world is pleading for his guidance and he shall deliver. His People's Army shall march from the mountains and destroy the worker's foes, smiting the world in a blaze of fire with only a simple crack of an atom.

- Eric Arthur Blair, Dzhugashvili and the Wisdom of Totalism

This is based on my playthrough with Kaiserreich’s submod - Kaiserredux. It basically redesigns some countries into their most extreme and bringing back some key features that were yanked out from the original game. So far, I love it in some ways: They make countries like Georgia and France interesting to tinker with, especially in a path where you could lead as Beria for the former; the graphics for the focus and ideas are a treat to look at, especially for Greece and the Two Sicilies. The only criticism I have is the design for Makhno’s focus tree. It's a sad imitation of TNO's Dirlewanger's Brigade but without the narrative flow that makes your chaotic ventures interesting. They could’ve made some interesting drawbacks playing as the Black Army, but no, it basically demolishes your entire infrastructure and your army is pretty much useless.

I played Georgia for 3-5 hours. I did eventually invade the Don Kuban Union but leave it out from the map because it doesn't look appealing from a design perspective. It's too easy to play them IMO, there are moments where you can pummel through the entire Caucasus without much of a challenge. Like Armenia and Azerbaijan have like 1-3 divisions while I mustered 10. But, reading the entire flavor text was fun, and the GFXs are a treat to gloss over. If you want something that is pure memes (but actually good), go download that crap in the workshop. You won’t regret it.

After I'm done with my other project for a certain mod, I might head back to play as Mongolia and make a map detailing my ventures over Central Asia. Also, here’s the link to the stuff I posted elsewhere: [ DeviantArt ]

Well, that's it from me. Have fun!

I imagine a PoD in 1814 where the Congress of Vienna allows Wallonia to France in exchange of Saarbrücken and other places near of Landau. 20 years later, Catholic Flanders became independant from Netherlands and Leopold of Saxe-Cobourg is elected King of Flanders. Brussels, meanwhile, becomes an independent city-state.
Here's a map of Flanders today (please note that in this TL, Furnes, Ypres and Menin still belong to France, Louis XV retakes West-Flanders to Austria in 1748, because because these cities were already French until 1713):

View attachment 554241
It must be Oost Vlaanderen. Ost is the german word.

A map of the Northeast of France with Wallonia remained French in 1814, as well as the area of Veurne(Furnes), Ieper(Ypres) in Flanders, as well as Sarrelouis and Landau. Please note that there are some alternate french departements as Flandre, Hainaut (these 2 departements ITTL replace the Nord departement and the belgian province of Hainaut and a chunk of OTL West-Flanders), Hautes-Ardennes ans others in OTL Wallonia.

The Republic of Colombia

Named after the great explorer, Colombia reigns as the most prosperous nation in the Americas. Gaining independence from Spain in 1505, it was seized by the House of Trastámara after their exile from Spain by the reigning Habsburg monarchy. Multiple invasions from both Spain and Portugal were launched to retake the colony but they all resulted in strengthening the young nation with peace deals favouring Colombia. Colombia quickly rose to prominence with its near-absolute monopoly on New World trading goods such as sugar, coffee, cocoa and precious gems. In the 1720s Colombia surpassed the Ottoman Empire as the world’s leading economic power, and in 1728 the groundworks for the Grand Panama Canal was laid. The country had since the very late 17th century underwent a violent republican revolution, overthrowing the monarchy.

My first post in quite a while. I've been busy with historical mapping lately, and this isn't quite the right forum for that kind of stuff. It is all available at my Deviantart account however if you want to check it out. This map was based on my latest EU4 game.

This is a gorgeous map.

I'm confused on just one thing. The GDP is roughly 32.5 million USD, but isn't that really terrible? I'd expect a country of that size and trade power to have one in the tens of billions at the least. Or is the map set more in the past?
