DBWI: What if Hefner had chosen a different path

Hugh Hefner is remembered for being one of the most prominent priests of the Methodist Church. In one of his last interviews before his death, he said that, when he was young, he'd briefly considered becoming a journalist. So, what if he had pursued that career?

Given his famous Ministry To Men, which attempted to help men find their way in a world transformed by women's participation in the economy and the rise of feminism, I think he'd maybe focus on something like that in journalism.

But thinking about his beloved televised Easter services, and how he didn't shy away from embracing some of the more secular trappings of the holiday, maybe his journalism would find a way to incorporate bunnies?

It's possible. Hefner loved bunnies.

Woodward, Bernstein and Hefner. Then the three of them get together and start their own muckraking newspaper called Workman, because they’re the men who do the work.

A Workman article about you is a death sentence to any political career.

Small quibble: Methodist clergy are ministers, rather than priests. The hierarchy does include bishops, however, and unlike many Protestant denominations, the clergy are assigned congregations (as opposed to them choosing for themselves, such as the Presbyterians).

Sorry. Living in a catholic country, I'm more used to say priest.

Hugh Heffner revivals would be simoky, not there to begin with. While controversial, Hugh Heffner's morality crusade did save Western world from sexual depravation of the 1960's hippies.

Speak for yourself. The man is responsible for how America is today, and he had following in Britain, but most people in mainland Europe wouldn't know who he is, and he had little to no effect on the development of social liberalism over here.

He knew it too. Why do you think his sermons targeted it so much - especially Scandinavia?

Actually, that's one thing. Hefner's moral crusade led to a lot of hippies and gay and lesbians heading for Europe, West Germany and Sweden in particular. You wouldn't have seen the major new music coming from there if not for Hef...and Sweden was very grateful to have William Gibson kick-start the Scandinavian sci-fi which is on TV everywhere these days :D

You mean PRAYBOY?
Then yes, that name is highly respected Evangelical Youth Magazine that has wide circulation and following in North America and British Isles.

Yes that was one of the masterpiece from Rev Heffner
