Artillerymen/Destroyermen

I was wondering if their were any fellow fans of Taylor Andersons Destroyermen series? Or if anyone had read his new start of a prequel series to Destroyermen "Artillerymen". I read the first book and was pleasantly surprised. While I fealt the last few books of the Destroyermen series had lagged seriousy (Even though the series had seriously improved from it's start) I felt that "artillerymen" was definitely better then the last few "destroyermen" books.

For those not in the know Destroyermen is a series about a old WW1 era "4 Piper" destroyer the USS Walker which obsolete by WW2 is part of the Asiatic Fleet and experiences that fleet's destruction. Fleeing the victorious Japanese the Walker along with others ends up transported in a "Squall" which takes them to a AH version of earth. One where dinosaurs never went extinct and populated by among other things a merciless horde like enemy descended from Velociraptors (The Grik), a peaceful people descended from Lemurs and more.

Artillerymen takes place a hundred years earlier and involves a group of ships and troops that are largely American forces headed to participate in the Mexican American War and Winnfield Scott's Push on Mexico city.

So any other readers or fans?

Surprised there doesn't appear to have been anyone to have read the Destroyerment series. It seems a pretty good fit for this site. Is this the first Destroyermen thread?
Anyway, I've read most of the books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I've never been able to finish the series, maybe you are correct it lags a bit at the end even if the writing improved? For me though, I don't think it was that really. I may have been reading a bit too fast and just ran out of steam . I made it to book 7 the first time and then book 10 when I tried again fairly recently. It really does get pretty wacky with the...
Republic of Real Humans and League of Tripoli.
Well, I'm glad to have found a fellow Destroyermen reader. Hopefully, there are a few more of us around here and we could get a real thread going.

I'll start off things with this silhouette recognition picture from the fandom wiki page.

Oh! And as a final question, do you think I could read Artillerymen without having finished the original series?

Theoretically yes. Once you've learned about the

New United States and Dominion its pretty self contained

I've read the whole Destroyermen series, rather liked it...
I'd reccommend artillerymen. Combines the better writing that gradually emerged with the latter books (I liked the first few but you have to admit the writing wasn't exactly top notch) with a freshness and a new perspective that is intriguing.
