  1. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

The Aegean seems like an awfully busy place.
  2. WI: Lincoln’s assassins get all their targets?

I would agree, from a public sentiment standpoint. The biggest effect here is among the politicians though. Removing Johnson is the biggest change. But I could see a more successful conspiracy putting some congressmen and senators on edge. Maybe some would shift toward radicals, maybe some would...
  3. WI: Lincoln’s assassins get all their targets?

It seems unlikely. The legal thinking throughout the war was that the Union was indivisible. The states in rebellion had never actually left and so would not be subject to being denied statehood. A military occupation as seen IOTL is the most likely outcome.
  4. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

I imagine that's an oversight. There is no way the pilgrimage road would not be developed and maintained. That's one that will easily pay for itself.
  5. Looking for a good timeline on avoiding the disaster at Teutoburg

A couple of recent threads have got me wondering if anyone has done a good timeline where the Roman's either avoid entirely or at least don't incur a massacre at Teutoburg Forest? It doesn't have to result in them holding Germania long term and certainly not looking for "Rome to the Urals" just...
  6. WI: Jefferson's 1784 'Report' Was Passed?

Slavery in the US is the perfect template for a problem that only grows larger, more expensive, and harder to fix the longer it is deferred because of its scope, cost, and difficulty. After the failure to address it at the Constitutional Convention each successive decade made it more unlikely to...
  7. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

Russia is truly setting up to be a hyperpower in modern times. The biggest threat at this point is internal instability, but their constitution is very much set up in a way to try to avoid that. The next threat would be a coalition of western powers attempting to contain it, but there's no...
  8. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

This is what I love most about this timeline. It gets into so much more than lines on a map. It deals realistically with the people within those lines. Both in the capital and outside of it.
  9. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

Great update. The Sideroi seem like they might be developing a tradition. I wonder if this will have any effects on the thoughts within the church on euthanasia. As for the scientific inquiry, it's great to see this level of international collaboration. I know things have been advancing at a...
  10. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

Yes, please don't create a 17th century Roman roads map that looks like a metro system.
  11. Pride Goes Before a Fall: A Revolutionary Greece Timeline

This is all important to remember when looking at the Greek gains in the last war "for practically nothing". Their neutrality was actually pretty impactful. As you said Britain could crush Greece, but it would be at the expense of containing Russia, which was the whole point of the war. It's...
  12. Mars, Athena and Ottoman inclusion at Westphalia (POD 1643)

The Swedes are leaning on everyone in Europe really hard right now. It's hard to imagine most of the continent not being hostile to them after the conclusion of the German War. So long as they keep the crowns of Sweden, Denmark and Norway united they should have a small land border to protect...
  13. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

I think Basileus has been clear on this. Sicily will have a great level of autonomy, but there are benefits of association with Rhomania that outweigh the benefits of independence. There is the security factor. Not only do they have a secure eastern border, but the threat of Rhomanian...
  14. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

For who? Carthage? There would need to be a significant growth of the despotate's holdings to create a viable state. You'd also likely need to see a cultural divide emerge, which will be more difficult if the city's population is being expanded by merchants and workers from Italy. Right now...
  15. An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

Integrated in what way? They retain local leadership, but they now are dependent on the Despotate of Italy instead of Constantinople. Sounds like this is about as integrated as they can get until the despotate forms some kind of federal structure and grants equal status to Carthage as say Messina.
  16. Pride Goes Before a Fall: A Revolutionary Greece Timeline

I would agree. I think the only reason for the Greeks to set up coaling islands would be as a commercial venture. I don't know enough about the economics of the time to say whether that could be a viable business though. From a strategic standpoint though, they have no military interests...
  17. Effects of a majority-Black state in the US south

There was tons, controlled by the federal government. A policy (official or not) of preferentially selling it could easily come into play.
  18. Scramble for africa sparks WW1

Would they be able to transit a substantial force through Afghanistan and have their arrival in India be a surprise? I would have to imagine upon the declaration of war British India will begin to mobilize, even if slowly.
  19. Effects of a majority-Black state in the US south

I don't doubt their ability to draw a militia from the population. Some open questions are going to be: -How well will they be armed? It's possible arms manufacturers would not want to do business with them. -How well will their neighbors be armed? It's possible arms manufacturers might provide...
