A Drop in the Bucket: Brazil and Latin America in the Cold War

It's always been rumored that the British were negotiating the sale of the islands, but there's ample reason to doubt it and little proof of it before or since. But it would certainly help the Argentine case to not go to war over it, not that Perón is the kind of president to lead any kind of...

A Drop in the Bucket: Brazil and Latin America in the Cold War

Very good update @Vinization, and a very believable alternative trajectory post no-coup-1955; the 1959 midterms may be a lot rougher for the government, especially if Mercante's example leads to even more defections, or worse, the unification of dissident peronists and other opponents could...

    Argentina avoided the Infamous Decade?

I've tinkered with this concept in my mind (I'm even working on a forum-based Argentine election game based on this scenario, though it's a far, far way off), and there's a lot of potential in this POD. If it were anyone but Yrigoyen, the UCR won't win with 60+% of the vote, but considering that...

Perón isn't overthrown in 1955, completes his second term?

Again, I daresay it would be uncharacteristic for him without changes to his personality earlier in his career. This is a man who at that point had tossed his former one of earliest allies, Cipriano Reyes, arrested and tortured. Political violence was already a part of his party's tool box.

Perón isn't overthrown in 1955, completes his second term?

A Tamborini presidency would make for an interesting TL.

Perón isn't overthrown in 1955, completes his second term?

Tamborini wasn't hurt by the broadness of his coalition, he was hurt by Peron's success in portraying himself as the people's savior against some nefarious foreign conspiracy (as opposed to the anti-fascist "Popular Front" style coalition it actually was). Mercante splintering the peronist...

Perón isn't overthrown in 1955, completes his second term?

There's a whole idea that there's a curse on the governorship of Buenos Aires because no governor has ever gone on to get elected president. It would be interesting if he did go on to develop presidential ambitions of his own, can't imagine how Peron would deal with it pre-coup considering how...

Perón isn't overthrown in 1955, completes his second term?

Not sure what his replacement with a different peronist Loyalist changed tbh.

Patton in Korea/MacArthur in the White House

I think you're right, and the intriguing question for me is what Perón would think of MacArthur. Superficially at least, there's a lot for Perón to like/admire in Mac, and it might even be mutual, as they both appear to be "conservative and paternalistic but sympathetic to labor rights". If the...

Patton in Korea/MacArthur in the White House

Vietnam holds the distinction (together with Afghanistan IIRC) of defeating a majority of the P5 members of the UNSC IOTL. It's an impressive record. Loving the TL, and it's interesting to see the world nudged slightly into a more "positive" trajectory than OTL. It's not a utopia or anything of...

Perón isn't overthrown in 1955, completes his second term?

There are two fundamental problems with it: it was an inherently political and partisan project, and was a personal pet project of Perón as opposed to a coherent automotive industry project. If the goal is a surviving, "domestic" automobile brand, SIAM Di Tella would create its own car line a...

An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

That was a beautiful, tragic end to the dazzling reign of Ibrahim. Wonderfully done, their final goodbyes brought tears to my eyes.

A New World Wreathed in Freedom - An Argentine Revolution TL

The yellow L is really the only innovation I've brought to the idea: the large capital L as the party logo is inspired directly from the Colombian Liberal Party, and as you astutely note, the Phrygian cap inside a cockade with the UP colors is a nod to the party's own ties to the revolution of...

A New World Wreathed in Freedom - An Argentine Revolution TL

I swear that I'm still thinking about this TL all the time, and I am (technically) still working on the "Great War" update. In the meantime, I will continue to shower you with graphics I create while I procrastinate from writing a new update (?). Today's feature, a logo for the Liberal Party...

    Map Thread XX

I think you'll have a better chance of getting the map in the Request thread over yonder; the map is intriguing though, and is quite nice despite (seemingly) being drawn on a napkin.

    Graphic Thread

I made the original bar chart in Google Sheets, exported the png to paint.NET, and then edited the colors there. I also opened an original png from the America Elects twitter, and copied the logo and the legend in the upper right (but not the text above it) to the image. I then used those colors...

Did some work on the graphic part of it, emulated the America Elects aesthetic from twitter! Quite pleased with how it turned out.

I wanted to pay homage to America Elects, an account I follow and support quite enthusiastically on twitter, by emulating their style for an ATL poll for my United Provinces setting.

A New World Wreathed in Freedom - An Argentine Revolution TL

That it can lol. Thought there might be interest in the actual list of parties, I've spoilered it due to size (there's a lot of parties, it's a bit indulgent but I am a poli-sci student).
