NASA Astronaut Group 2 "The New Nine"-1962
NASA Astronaut Group 2 was also known as “The new Nine”. The group was required to augment the original Mercury 7 with the announcement of Gemini and Apollo programs. Two of this groups, Pete Conrad and James Lovell had tested for the Mercury 7 group selection and had been rejected at the time for medical reasons. The group also selected the first civilian pilots with Neil Armstrong and Elliot See.

James McDivitt after Apollo-9 became the Manager of the Apollo Spacecraft Program. In 1972 he accepted the Apollo LESA program director position.
Elliot See (Status=Deceased)

Thomas "Mumbles" Stafford (Status=Active)
(1930-) USAF Missions(5)= Gemini-3, Gemini-12, Apollo-10, Skylab-2, Skylab-13
Stafford is Deputy to Lovell for Chief of the Astronaut Office. When Lovell was training for ASTP-I, Stafford assumed Lovell's duties.
