Zeppelins
Early lighter-than-air-aircraft. They are also known as airships. They were discredited by the fiery crash of the Hindenburg. On April 27th in 1940, the last Groß-Luftschiffe were wrecked, order by Göring.
In Alternate History
Zeppelins are so common in alternate history that they have become a cliche.
