List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

Probably ASB, but I love me some Hans of Denmark (1518-1532) surviving:

Hans, Governor of the Netherlands [1545[1]-1552], Prince of Denmark, Sweden & Norway (1518-1552) 1m: 1541 [2] Marguerite de France (b.1523)

Klaudia (b.1542) m: 1560 Felipe II, King of Spain [3] (1527-1598)
Isabel (b.1563)
Stillborn Son (1565)
Juan, Duke of Burgundy [as Jean II, from 1598] (1568-1618) m:
Stillborn Son (1569)
Margarita (b.1572)
Felipe (1574-1582)
Johann (1543-1545)
Karl, King of Denmark & Norway [from 1563 [4] (b.1544) m: 1560 Anna of Saxony (b.1544)
Margrethe (b.1561)
Christian (1563-1567)
Morits (b.1564)
Anna (b.1566)
Stillborn Daughter (1567)
Carl (b.1569)
Kristina (b.1571)
Margarethe (b.1545) m: 1563 [5] Adolph, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp (1545-1586)
Sophie (1564-1622)
Frederik (1568-1577)
Stillborn Daughter (1570)
Philippa (b.1572)
Christian, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp (b.1574)
Christian (1547-1552)
Stillborn Son (1548)
Franz, Governor of the Netherlands [1576-1592] (1550-1592) m: 1573 Marie Eleonore of Cleves (b.1550)

Franz (1577-1582)
Eleonore (1580-1605)
Christian Philipp, Duke of Cleves [from 1609] (b.1582)
Franz (1584-1586)
Isabella (b.1585)

[1] Karl V accepts one of his sister, the Queen of Hungary's resignation requests
[2] as OTL, François proposes his sole surviving daughter for Karl V as he passes through Paris. Karl refuses, but suggests his nephew, Hans, in his entourage instead. François is not pleased by the idea of a match with a "landless" prince, but given that his sisters are duchess of Lorraine and Electress Palatine, figures it could be worse.
[3] Mary Tudor lives slightly longer, so Élisabeth de Valois and D. Carlos marry (OTL Kristina of Denmark was attempting to marry her own daughter to Felipe II as a third wife)
[4] Frederik II dies in one of his drinking bouts, with no issue. His brother, Magnus, and his mother, Dorothea of Saxe-Lauenburg's ship sank en route to Sweden. Leaving his brother, Johann of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön as heir. However, into the dispute between the two Johanns (Frederik II's brother and his uncle, Johann of Schleswig-Holstein-Haderslev) Karl's name is touted as a third candidate. Nobody's convinced, but the fact that he's male, married to a Lutheran (at least), technically the senior-most heir to Denmark, and brings connections at a time when Denmark is increasingly diplomatically isolated...oh, and he has a son, means he sort of wins out by default (even if nobody is particularly thrilled)
[5] marriage arranged to ensure Adolph's support for Karl. Was not a particularly happy one due to mismatched temperaments (religious and personality-wise)

@King of Danes @Nuraghe @isabella
Very interesting! I imagine Hans and his line will have to serve as mediators between France and Austria/Spain

Yay! Some love for Katherine parr!

Alexander I of Russia did have children with his wife OTL. Two daughters, if I remember correctly. Unfortunately for Alexander I and Elizabeth Alexeievna, both didn't survive past toddlerhood.
interesting idea (and one I discussed with a friend once): Alexander's son by his mistress (Nikolai Alexandrovich Loukache) in 1796 is born to Elizaveta Alexeïevna instead. And to "balance" it out, Empress Maria Feodorovna gives birth to a stillborn son (aka Nikolai I, who was a huge baby OTL apparently). The doctors advise that Paul and his wife mustn't have more children.

And now we have the updated version of Hapsburg family tree. As always suggestions are appreciated!

Amazing work! And with only the Empire to deal with i imagine charles doesn't get burned out?

How about his eternal rivarly with francis? was he able to get the better of him?
Francis never comes to the French throne, and with Margaret of Austria as Queen of France and her daughter marrying Charles relations between the Empire and France are much more cordial. They‘re not best friends but we won’t have hundreds of years of an Austrian-French rivalry.

Much better! And I also see Charles' line building the german idenity around austria.

Austria will remain a key part of the empire into the future and with only the Burgundian Netherlands and the Austrian homeland, the Hapsburgs will be able to focus entirely on German affairs.

  • Dorothea of Denmark, Princess of Denmark (b. 1520, d. 1576) m. Alexander IV, King of Scotland (b. 1515, d. 1565)
Scotland is unlikely, she would've either gone to the Palatinate (as OTL) or to Cleves, depending on whether her father was deposed or not. An English bride for his son and a Scots one for his daughter seems unlikely IMO

Joanna of Austria, Archduchess of Austria (b. 1522, d. 1574) m. Sigismund II, King of Poland (b. 1521, d. 1583)
Zygmunt Stary specifically wanted a granddaughter of his brother for his son's wife, not just any old archduchess/imperial niece
  • Christina of Denmark, Princess of Denmark (b. 1522, d. 1592) m. William I, Duke of Jülich-Cleves-Berg (b. 1516, d. 1592)
maybe a surviving Severinus of Saxony/Catholic Moritz of Saxony?

hilip II, Holy Roman Emperor (b. 1532, d. 1598) m. Elizabeth of Bavaria (b. 1529, d. 1584)
  • Maximilian of Austria, Archduke of Austria and Duke of Inner Austria (b. 1528, d. 1560) m. ?
  • Katherine of Austria, Archduchess of Austria (b. 1529, d. 1585) m. Ludovico II Sforza, Duke of Milan (b. 1527, d. 1570)
Habsburg treaty of Linz with Bavaria specifically stipulated a match between Ferdinand's children and those of the duke of Bavaria

Bishop of Tyrol (b. 1535, d. 1600)
bishop of Tyrol isn't a thing. And given that the Habsburgs are down the Bohemian electorate, if he goes into the church, he will wind up in whichever of the ecclesiastical electorates (Cologne, Mainz, Trier) goes vacant first*

*Albrecht of Brandenburg, Archbishop of Mainz died in 1545, but he's only 10yo so @Nuraghe can opine on how credible an archbishop the boy would be. Next vacancy is in 1555. Cologne went vacant in 1546, so I suspect he'd have to wait until 1558 for Cologne. Trier went vacant in 1547, then again in 1556. In short, Mainz (and the imperial chancellorship) seems to be the likeliest option
