    WIP Map Thread

I've no idea if I'm making a decent heightmap? This is a segment of an ATLA map btw. I think it looks better than my previous attempts.Something I'm conscious of is that I tend to make maall islands disproportionately tall and detailed in the terrain, which I think I'm correcting for?

I hate that map so much. Possibly the most egregious thing being the revival of the Olmecs at the heart of the Aztec empire millennia after they vanished. Maybe I should scrounge up one of my no European contact maps.

If Viking trans-Atlantic exchange, then better fate for Native Americans?

I feel that merely the introduction of the concept of epidemic disease would be a benefit in resisting the earliest waves of disease when the Spanish later arrive. Iirc the typical response in these earliest epidemics was for the family of the ill person to gather around them to comfort them...

The Jaguar's Roar - An Aztec Timeline

Do you know something I don't? As far as I'm aware this tl isn't dead or anything. This is AH, people often take a long time between posting. The last threadmark was only a little more than 2 months ago.

The Jaguar's Roar - An Aztec Timeline

Did you not read your own sources? The Reuters article talks about how "human sacrifice had an important role in Mesoamerican cultures, including the Mexica and the Maya, which “believed that human sacrifice nourished the gods.”". The article specifically debunked the false claim that they...

You are one of me. Almost certainly very different etymologies though.

Solar Dreams: a history of solar energy (1878 - 2025)

They focus light on a point directly in front of them, not in a beam. If you built one to focus further away, the energy concentrated would drop significantly. It won't have a 'range' much past its own length. Further, focusing it down towards a target on the ground would be a colossal loss of...

Solar Dreams: a history of solar energy (1878 - 2025)

idk how you'd sneak up on a trench with a 50+ m tall mirror, doesn't seem very portable to me. Maybe if you did it at night.

I'd like to note that historians place some credence in the Amazons being inspired by the practices of the Scythians (who weren't a matriarchy but did have a lot of female warriors as they defended themselves when the men went off raiding) so these mythic amazons here probably fought the people...

It looks more like a lovecraftian horror story happened some decades ago but was defeated by the greater horror which is capitalism. I see that 'Prov' there, seems like an otl state name to me. Or part of one I guess.

AHC: Make Buddhism and Islam the two most dominant religions in the Americas

I know that islamic traders gradually grew in influence over the later part of Majapahit, but the monopolisation of trade routes with Malacca and various other islamic polities by islamic traders might encourage the disfavoured hindu-buddhists to look for other trading partners. If contact with...

AHC: Make Buddhism and Islam the two most dominant religions in the Americas

The scenario is far harder for Buddhists, but I think that SEA is a better bet than China or Japan. The Majapahits, perhaps? There's evidence that Javanese sailors sailed very far, idk how well they'd do over unfamiliar open ocean though.

The Jaguar's Roar - An Aztec Timeline

It's the dawn of the 16th century and European supremacy is pretty much dead in the water without the conquest of mesoamerica. Mato Grosso is pretty much the only way to fund a colonial period somewhat like otl. As much as European contacts would be invaluable, European patrons seem unneeded.

I've seen some of these before, I did a project on pre-columbian agricultural practices in uni, though we ended up focusing on mayan practices. I think I need to revisit my map of the pre-columbian Americas, I see that a lot of my placement of amazon cultures is pretty inaccurate. It's such a...

Before I actually looked at the maps, I saw this and thought 'South Korea-Senegal union???' sadly, this was not the case. Fun concepts nonetheless. I like Great Fulo and the Solomon Islands and environs in the post-apocalypse sounds like an interesting setting. I'm reminded of the cargo cult...

They don't want the British there either though. The Chileans might be able to play them off each other to give themselves room to breathe, but it's a dangerous game.

Straight line borders are aesthetically ugly but, in the practical aspect, they only exacerbate the existing issues inherent to any border, that of arbitrarily excluding people. It could hardly be said that the 49th parallel stretch of the US-Canada border is any worse than the India-Bangladesh...

I've tried my hand at Africa maps in the past, and I think this might be worse than otl. Of course, state borders are only one component of post-colonial Africa that was fucked up, but still... The worst of the ethnic tensions don't seem to have been addressed either. The Igbo and other Niger...

Well, that is just a map of Mesoamerica in approx 1495. But the point was to have the slightest contact before reinforcing isolation. Some diseases will still spread throughout the Americas and some Spanish technologies, but the Spanish will have to incorporate natives or face extinction. I...
