  1. Soviet navy relies more heavily on mines

IIRC, the Soviets would have made maximum use of mines where possible, including protecting their SSBN bastions. But as noted earlier, first you have to get them there and then, once the minesweepers come through, you have to get them there again.
  2. Sports What Ifs.

No, he was already missing games with the Cavs. Played only 57 games in '88 and only 35 in 1990. The big one was the knee injury in 93ish...
  3. Sports What Ifs.

He had a lot of injury issues as did Mark Price and Brad Daugherty. They had some great talent and wish they could have gotten a title. But I dont think keeping Harper would have gotten them over the hump. In fact, their best chance was arguably the season that Jordan beat them with the iconic shot.
  4. Ivan's revenge : Soviets try to settle score with EGYpt

Support militants that plan to assassinate the the president
  5. Cities that could have been much larger

    Carthage. Damn Romans...
  6. Was the Second World War Avoidable?

As it existed, yes. All history as we know it is avoidable. However, the amount of social, economic, and national upheaval makes some sort of large conflict highly likely. Asia was already at war. The rise of the USSR would have created a catalyst for conflict.
  7. Soviets invade the allies during operation downfall.

Stalin gets a bullet in the back of the head. Even he had limits to his power - something he knew well.
  8. AHC: Have the Soviet Union survive to the present

Gromyko was not the guy to make this happen. Too old and too scarred by Stalin. Someone like Ligachev might have been able to. There might be others I am unaware of as well. But most likely to junior.
  9. AHC: Have the Soviet Union survive to the present

That's because it was a near impossibility. There wasnt anyone remotely close to the Politburo that had the power base, drive, courage and intellectual capacity to pull something like this off. The closest was Gorbachev and...it didnt work.
  10. James Bond Created During World War 1?

There are a lot of stories you could tell with Bond in the 20s and 30s. Soviet Union, Germany, Ireland, anywhere really during the Great Depression.
  11. Alternate cold war if the USSR liberated all of europe during WW2

    1. Once the Soviets get through Poland, the Germans will begin moving stuff out of France and Italy and back into Germany. The Alps and Rhine form good defensive lines. The Germans keep lighter forces there while the struggle against the slavic invaders. At that point, the US, Brits, Canucks...
  12. Sports What Ifs.

The hard thing about teams moving is that it has more to do with owner personality and political machinations than economics or fan bases. The fact that LA went 20 years without a team says all you need to know. It's pretty hard to assess the fallout of WI's when catalysts are so...
  13. Sports What Ifs.

Was that the season where, in the play of the last game they had an epic 6 lateral kick off return for a touchdown with no time left only to miss the extra point causing them to miss out?
  14. Sports What Ifs.

I'm not sold on the idea that Brees would have been better than Rivers in SD. SD habitually gave away its best players - Seau, Rodney Harrison, and Vincent Jackson among others. Add in the fact that they had "never get to the Super Bowl" Shottenheimer and replaced him with "Great Assistant but...
  15. Sports What Ifs.

These guys are all perceived as NFL QBs because they were high school all-americans and are good athletes. But Leinhart was lazy, Sanchez stupid, Booty just reputation, and Kessler held in the same breath as Jim Sorgi. They get the Halo effect because they were recruited to USC and are...
  16. Sports What Ifs.

NFL QBs are pretty idiosyncratic. Miami had an incredible run in the 80s with Kelly, Kosar, and Testeverde. Michigan had a decent run in the 90s/00s with Brady, Griese, and Grbac. BYU had a good stretch with Jim McMahon, Steve Young and...Ty Detmer. But by and large, its pretty scattershot...
  17. Sports What Ifs.

Even if county stadium could fit a CFL field, they still couldnt compete with the Packers. Former Milwaukee ticket holders still get two games a year at Lambeau. The state is crazy. I say that as someone who lived in Wisconsin for 30 years.
  18. AHC/WI Republican West Coast in 2018?

You need to avoid the Republican Party shifting to being the party of the South. Reagan came from California and Pete Wilson was relatively successful. Orange County and San Diego county are hardcore Republican bases. Rural Oregon and Washington look more like Idaho than Seattle or Portland...
  19. WWII without Hitler

I would think so. It's interesting but not so much that I want to do it. But run with it if you want.
  20. What if Hitler Directly Invaded the USSR?

This is an interesting discussion when it comes to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, and Winston Churchill - among others, mostly pre-19th century. The only people who genuinely think this about Hitler are people who are ignorant of key facts and/or Nazi...
