  1. US Army Air Corps survives to Cold War

The B-36 was built by Convair, & lasted until the B-52s came into service. The B-47 was considered to be a medium bomber as it didn't really have the range.
  2. Celebrity Presidents

Howard Hughes was one time considered, but I guess he refused because it meant too many public appearances. I think Bob Hope joked about wanting to become president, but his wife didn't want to move into a smaller house. The would also have to change the constitution.
  3. Historically inaccurate war movies - AH?

One common but almost inavoidable thing is the use of planes that are wrong for the period. This is mainly because surving WW2 planes tend to be from the end of the war, & wouldn't have been used in the Battle Of Britain. The thing to look out for is the cannons in the wings which almost no...
  4. Independent Isle of Wight

I've been there twice & enjoyed it both times. I was wandering if it was ever autonomus in the past. Before 1974 I don't think it was even a county in it's own right. The Isle Of Man & the Channel Isles have a long history of self government, which explains their current status.
  5. Carribean Indians survive

Barbados has a population where Caribs are still a seperate ethnic group. My parents found this out when they went for a cruise a few years back.
  6. British Colin Powell

Idi Amin managed to gain the highest rank obtained by a naitive soldier in the King's African Rifles. Most of his superiors considered him a model soldier.
  7. DeLorean

One thing that didn't help the DMC 12 was having a PVR engine of just 130 hp, along with many others (too many to list!). Until quite late in the day they were going to be bulit in Puerto Rico.
  8. Confederate Irish Bde

Not totally on subject but slightly relevent. I noticed in a book on modeling that during the ACW the union forces seemed to be organised by states, similar to British regiments. Did the Southern forces do a similar thing? Also when did the US Army phase out state based organisation.

Canadian Bacon - An inside look at Kevin Bacon's attempts to be a convincing Cannuck. Co-Stars William Shatner, Pamela Anderson, Jim Carrey & Mike Myers. Sound track features Alanis Morrisette, Bryan Adams & Avril Lavegne.
  10. More foreign Popes

Cardinal Basil Hulme was a hot tip for next Pope in the late 1990s but predeceased John Paul II. It has been suggested that a Latin American bishop might be considered for the next Pope.
  11. More WWII surplus aircraft used after 1945

Either Tempests or Fireflys were used by Cuba at The Bay Of Pigs.
  12. the best movies never made

Crossroads: Whilst on a road trip Brittney Spears & friends suddenly find themselves at a motel on the outskirts of Brimingham (not the one in Alabama!) which is populated by people even more 1 dimensional & superficial than they are. They are menaced by wobbling walls & one of them vanished...
  13. Germany won the first world war

Did the Portugese swap Senegal for Goa? as this isn't shown as theirs on the map of India.
  14. WI the USSR had landed on the moon?

If rocket pioneer Sergei Korolev hadn't suddenly died in the mid 1960s they might have got there even quicker. His replacement was more used to working with planes & struggled to come up with a suitable rocket design.
  15. The Biafrans Win

According to my Dad the Biafran movement had UN support at first, but after 6 months of gurilla warfare it was obvious who was going to win. Maybe if Biafra tried a non violent approach & the UN sent in peacekeeping forces after they were attacked by Federal forces things might have worked out...
  16. United Kingdom invited to join United States...

I think there's been plans to make the District of Columbia & Guam states, as well as Puerto Rico. What is the status of the US Virgin islands?
  17. Steam aircraft

The French Eole steam powered experiment managed a small hop, but didn't have any means for controlling the flight. The sheer weight of a steam engine, complete with fuel & water always counted against it.
  18. AH Challenge: Russo-Japanese war lasts longer

Did the Russians have a Northern fleet at this time? It would have been a bit easier for one based at Mermansk to get to the far East than the Baltic fleet.
  19. AH Challenge: Russo-Japanese war lasts longer

Maybe the Chinese could get involved, possibly supplying materials to Russia in exchange for land in Siberia or other disputed territories.
  20. Different RAF

The Vickers Vimy was planned a bomber which could hit targets inside Germany from British bases. It arrived too late for this purpose, but served as an airliner & made many long distance record breaking flights as a bomber in the inter war period.
