  1. WI: Kühlmann's "Peace Kite" Flies, a Negotiated End to WWI in 1917?

By the time the British had gained control of contiguous territories which could make Rhodes's dream a reality, the financial state of the British economy made it pretty much impossible to complete linking up the bits that did exist. And, to be honest, would it have made much difference. If we...
  2. Marineflieger Kommando: MFK - Hitlers Fleet Air Arm

A rational senior member of the Kriegsmarine? Whatever next? Seriously, a well-thought out and written chapter.
  3. Delaunay's dream: A World Football Timeline

Still remember the original 1972 game at Wembley, as it was one of very few matches to be televised live in the UK. This 9-year old was allowed up to watch it! (The seven -year-old me still remembers not being allowed to watch the 1970 FA Cup Replay between Chelsea & Leeds at Old Trafford...
  4. Alternate/What If Osprey Titles

Texel: The Death Ride of the High Sea Fleet. The last, desperate and totally unnecessary final mission of the Kaiserliche Marine that resulted in the largest naval surface action in history; the most costly of days for the Royal Navy and United States Navy; and the sacrifice of the High Sea...
  5. Post 1905 Sanity Options For Czarist Russia

Shoot Rasputin. Shoot Lenin. Shoot Rasputin again, just to be sure.
  6. What if Japan attacked the Dutch East Indies in 1936?

Hmm... many reasonable folk reckon Yamamoto would have been hanged if he had survived on the basis of the execution of the survivors from USS Edsall, supposedly killed because the Combined Fleet took an age to sink their old destroyer.
  7. Marineflieger Kommando: MFK - Hitlers Fleet Air Arm

Hope not - the troopship that brought my old man back from Korea was a former Nazi cruise ship (IIRC the Orantes).
  8. Would Asia/the world of the twentieth century have been better off if Japan lost the Russo-Japan War, was stalemated, or deterred from attacking?

As a previous member has posted, Admiral Makarov & the Petropavlosk are not blown up by a mine. With the Japanese still losing two battleships to the same cause, and a commander who outshone Vitgeft, and who would stand up to the Viceroy, the Russians would have a well-led fleet that outnumbered...
  9. Without the Italo-Turkish War, does WWI still happen?

The Great Powers expected "some damned thing in the Balkans" to spark a war that would drag in Austria-Hungary &/or Russia and then the rest... At some stage the Balkan League in some form or another would see Ottoman strength ebb away and seize their chance.
  10. If World War II Never Happened: A FIFA World Cup Timeline

Quoting myself seems very narcissistic but... When the commentators say "No-one wants to see disgraceful scenes like this" all true football fans are "Yes, get on with it, kick each other up in the air!"
  11. If the Triple Entente lost WWI, it is likely that Britain, not France, would have been the most revanchist of the three

Assuming that Britain effectively withdraws from WW1 rather than suffer a massive naval defeat, or succumb to USW, or mislay some colonies... France, having lost twice to Germany in 45 years, will burn for revenge but will not be able to do anything on their own. Russia would have the ability...
  12. An AH Battle: 1st Battle of Midway, 17 - 21 June 1942

Excellent - thoroughly enjoyable & plausible.
  13. If World War II Never Happened: A FIFA World Cup Timeline

Ah yes, OTL Portuguese against the Dutch survives. One of the most enjoyable football matches I have had the pleasure to watch. Not, of course, involving your own team - these are much more fun when you are a neutral!
  14. Into the Fire - the "Minor" nations of WW2 strike back

Much as I detest OTL MacArthur, it is a pleasant change to have a timeline where he actually lives up to his billing.
  15. January 1943. The German View

More likely to be the Dead of the Somme.
  16. How would a NATO invasion of Warsaw Pact go?

Brightly. Very bright. Sort of sun-shiny
  17. Zimmerman denies the telegram

Ah - I see. My apologies. No USW does give Germany a greater chance. As does delayed USW, but IMHO only marginally, as the later US entry will remove the bankruptcy issues for Britain (at least until after the war!) and given how long the US build-up took I suspect the Entente will hold on...
  18. Zimmerman denies the telegram

You did say... Delayed USW =/= No USW.
  19. WW2/Cold War if Alaska had been part of the USSR?

    And the Spanish-American War wasn't?
  20. Zimmerman denies the telegram

You missed out the US declaration of war in June 1917, as if USW declared after a two-month delay, the DoW will occur on a similar timeline. (So the Entente will not be bankrupt in the November, while the Italians were the army that held the line after Caporetto - the French & British arriving...
