  1. 1950s "Limited" Nuclear War

Nothing. At all. Actually, I suspect that's the probable result.
  2. A Better Rifle at Halloween

Oh, I think they'd be far more likely to shoot him for that reason. Oh! You meant ENEMY soldiers. ;):):p
  3. 1950s "Limited" Nuclear War

In 1955, the USSR had only 200 nukes. The US had 2400 (and the Brits had 14). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_nuclear_weapons_stockpiles_and_nuclear_tests_by_country The Soviets aren't going to be able to totally destroy Western Europe, let alone the US, whereas the US can smash the...

  5. Sir John Valentine Carden Survives. Part 2.

Sure, the Albacores are sitting ducks for Zeros, IN DAYLIGHT, which is why they'd fly at night.
  6. A Better Rifle at Halloween

Ummm.... be careful, really careful here. Sure, mechanical computers will help with simple math, artillery plotting and the like, but hydrodynamics? No way. The speed of these machines is, AFAIK, in operations per second, not thousands or millions. Look at when such calculations became...
  7. Operation Unthinkable goes ahead - how much longer does the war last?

Err.... no. They KNOW the US has a bomb. IF they go to war it will take that into account. No. 1) OTL They had 3, not two. 2) OTL They ramped down production to make the production process much safer, and, I think more efficient. Also, the war was over, and there was no urgency. IIRC...
  8. If the 22nd Amendment Had Not Passed, Would Eisenhower Have Run for a Third Term?

The second amendment didn't apply to him. "But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within...
  9. British and commonwealth rocket development

See below. Do you have a citation for that? Oh, SO not happening.. 1) getting the infrastructure for a manned mission especially for a US rocket, and not only that, but one that uses different fuels, isn't going to happen. 2) as mentioned in the quote above, you can't launch east from...
  10. British and commonwealth rocket development

Hmmm... "Red Rover, Red Rover, I call Jim Chamberlain over"? :););p
  11. Sir John Valentine Carden Survives. Part 2.

The Burma-Yunnan railway was a thing. It never got finished iotl, with the fall of Burma, but here it would. That would significantly increase the tonnage to China. Narrow gauge, certainly, but presumably all weather. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yunnan%E2%80%93Burma_railway
  12. Effects of earlier development of sugar beet based production of sugar in Europe?

Errr... to get any reasonable amount of sugar, you need to breed beets to massively increase the sugar content. See also https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/earlier-adoption-of-sugar-beet.546102/...
  13. Effects of the independent invention of the outrigger canoe by Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest.

Outrigger canoes are largely irrelevant. What they really want is proper sails.

  15. Nobunaga’s Ambition Realized: Dawn of a New Rising Sun

It's true that they briefly hit a high over 50Mt a year. But their current reserves, with modern technology only amount to 386Mt, some 1.8 years worth of consumption. How much was available with then current tech in the early 1800s, I'd not want to guess. I'm often astounded that they have...
  16. Nobunaga’s Ambition Realized: Dawn of a New Rising Sun

The problem is that Japan doesn't have much coal at all. If they need much coal, they're going to have to import it.
  17. Ferdinand de Lesseps builds his americs canal in Nicaragua instead of Panama

???? How do you figure that? Besides, it's a longer distance, total, which means a sea-level canal would be far more expensive. I just can't imagine anyone trying a sea-level canal in Nicaragua.
  18. WI: The French sponsored Christopher Columbus?

    1) not so much dumb, which I did not at all say, but ignorantof maritime matters. Spain had spent the last few centuries focused directly only land affairs, specifically the Reconquista. They had essentially no interest in Atlantic trade until that was completed. In 1492. 2) not the only...
  19. WI: The French sponsored Christopher Columbus?

Columbus was completely wrong. He thought that China was where North America is. Places like Portugal refused to fund him since they knew darned well that his numbers were WAY off. France, I suspect, would know better. He got funding from Spain because they were ignorant in maritime matters.
