  1. It actually happened, it was in the news.

Watching the news today the Canadians have actually tapped the strategic Maple syrup reserve. We, in the Alternate History forums, joke about it, but it actually happened IOTL. Who da thunk it?
  2. License built copy?

I notice lots of new threads about licensing a <insert item here>. You only need a license to build an exact copy of an item, not something you reengineer to your specs. Japan had superior subs, they don’t need a type VII, Germany is the one that needs the exact copy of the I Boatsas an example.
  3. Need help with some books

I know that it has been posted before, but I cannot find them. The book on the logistics in the Pacific in WW2, cannot find my link to the book on amazon. A book on logistics including how much is needed by whom and size and weight of items, and what can carry so much. Thank you in advance.
  4. How long does the Entente last

If the U.S. does not DOW the Central powers, for what ever reason including the Germans decide that Unrestricted Submarine warfare and getting Mexico involved is too, how long until the Entente wants peace with the Central powers. The peace can be anywhere from status quo ante bellum to...
  5. When things were first used or invented and they worked.

I was talking to some students the other day and went over some items of when they were first invented and used successfully. 1880's Self propelled torpedo 1898 Remote control by radio 1918 Cruise missile, Kettering Bug 1940's Precision guided munitions, Fritz X 1944 Liquid fueled long...
  6. Leader who are a little bit badass.

Starting in the 20th century it seems like there is a dearth of leader who are a bit of a badass. I can think of a few US presidents who were pretty good before they became presidents. Here is my list of US Presidents in the 20th century what about other countries? 1. Teddy Roosevelt, goes...
  7. Modern air launched torpedos against surface ships

Is there a role for air launched torpedo to be used against surface ships in modern warfare? This could be either aircraft or missile launched for the attack. Against merchant shipping by aircraft is possible, use of a cruise missile carrier, that could also carry an explosive warhead to...
  8. Mythbusters

I watch Mythbusters as much as possible on the Discovery Channel. I was trying to come up with some alt-hist myths that could be proven to maybe send into the show, they ask for ideas from the viewers all the time. So any ideas folks? I am cross posting this to both the before and after...

  10. Washington Naval Treaty

Here are some proposals for a different WNT. I was looking at a way to make a different treaty that would make them shop for their ships instead of just having something set in stone as to sizes and numbers. Basically it would be like this type Great Britain...
  11. Letters of Marquee

What if a country started using Letters of Marquee in different periods from the 1900's onward? Would we see a rise in the use of light cruisers and more heavily armed against surface action destroyers?
  12. Naval ordnance question

I know there was solid shot, hot shot, chain shot, bar shot, and grapeshot. But I cannot remember what the technical term for when they loaded nails, scraps of metal and what not into a cannon to fire. Little help here please, have someone telling me there was not a term for it.
  13. Des Moines Class CA in modern USN

Is there a mission for a Des Moines class CA in the USN now? Or maybe a hybrid with 8" guns in turrets up front and the vertical launch missile system in the rear of the ship? Currently the largest gun on a USN ship is a 5" single gun mount and it seems kinda small for gun fire support. Would...
