I admit that I’m not familiar with the exact details, but wouldn’t Manchuria at this time already be dominated demographically by Han Chinese people? Trying to incite Manchu nationalism seems like just the sort of thing that causes your overwhelmingly Han Chinese population to overthrow you in favor of the ethnically Han Chinese dynasty right to the south - particularly when that dynasty is both much more powerful and not a puppet to a predatory overlord.
Edit: also, didn’t the century of humiliation really sour ethnic Hans on being controlled by a Manchu dynasty? Emphasizing that heritage even more wouldn’t be receive well, I suspect.
Good point. I might drop that line.
So, who is the Prime Minister of the Xinhai Dynasty, then? I assume their flag is this, then:
Yep, that's their flag. Haven't figured out who's PM yet. Not sure I will - this is likely to be our last check in with China for a while. One of the grim realities of writing alternate history is that as the butterflies flap their wings, you have to keep track of more and more changes. We still have a LOT to check in with just to get a proper sense of the world after WW1. Here's a non-exhaustive list of what I need to cover:
- The outcome of the Austrian crisis (probably two chapters)
- Italy dealing with the Bienno Rosso and the Farce on Rome
- Germany figuring out the new normal
- Falangism emerging in Spain
- Early signs of authoritarianism in France and Britain
- Russia after a White victory in the Civil War
- WTF is up with the Middle East
- How the other nations of Latin America adjust to the existence of the American Socialist Union
And all of that is ignoring whatever happens back in the ASU.
