This is supposed to the the AH Historical Event thread, not the
AH Quote thread. But I’ll try to make it fit anyway:
The immortal words commemorating the first transmission received from the Peri Space Station. Envisioned as a scientific mega-project to foster cooperation across the Middle East and the Islamic world, the space station was built over a period of ten years; Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and the Islamic Republic of Iran provided most of the financial & industrial capital for the project while Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Egypt and Afghanistan provided specific key resources like expertise in nuclear physics, launch facilities, experience in running a space-program and access to exploitable rare earth metal deposits.
In a moment celebrated across all OIC states Peri station finally received its first crew on May 8, 2030. After the crew capsule successfully docked with the space station Mission Control sent out a message to the crew’s leader — “How does it feel to be a pioneer of Islamic Space Exploration?”
At that moment however the expedition’s leader (Major Tahir Khan) was addressing the crew’s zoologist who was taking care of a squawking parakeet (brought into space for biological microgravity experiments). Not realizing his mike was hot, Major Khan’s response was recorded as “pacify her — she is getting on my nerves!”
The humorous moment gave rise to an alternative name for the period which Western scholars would later call the “First Islamic Space Age” — in the Middle East that same timeframe is known as the “Pacification of Space”.
