Alternate timeline where Louisiana is still part of France.

-France ceded the east bank of the Mississippi to England way back
-France DIDN'T cede the whole west bank to Spain, only territory north of the Red River (OTL border between Texas and Oklahoma)
-USA remains weak and federalised, instead of centralising, evolves into something like the modern EU
-Native groups are able to use support from Spain and France to assert themselves to equal status with states in the union

I don't know much about Louisiana, so if any region names seem odd please tell me. I chose parish names over city names, since I thought they fit better.
Why does Spain rescind its claim to OTL West Florida? Why are the "Five Civilized Tribes" still moved west if in a stronger position, and how come they still face their post U.S. civil war territorial reductions?

I don't know 😔

I didn't do a lot of research, I just looked at a few maps and started drawing.

How does Podlachia treat its small but longstanding and historically notable Muslim population? Do Lipka Tatars from Belarus and Lithuania have any special relationship with/opinion of Poddlachia? I see the president seems to be a Christian Pole which makes sense demographically but I still wonder what their relationship is with the Tatars?

In 1932 British gave India self rule under a dominion status for all british raj territories except Burma which was separated and Bombay which they retained as a Crown colony. After world war 2 , India became a republic in 1948 and demanded Bombay. British were reluctant but US didnt want India to be on the USSR side so a UN backed referendum was allowed to happen in Bombay where people were to vote if they want to join India.

The British thought there might be a slight possibility they might win because Europeans from all over India moved to Bombay when the British Raj was dissolved and including anglo Indians they made around a fifth of the population and the British had heavily invested in bombay in the early 50s thinking some indians also might sway to their side. However on the refrendum only the Europeans and a small amount of Anglo Indians voted for British rule and Bomabay formally joined the Republic of India

Very rocky after independence from the USSR, but by 2020 to 2050 there's more tolerance for these historic minorities than even some larger European countries as well as special protection.

This is very cool, who are the Left Behinders at the Great Lakes?
Northern Montana, not the Great Lakes, but a lot of radiation from the nuked nuclear silos blew that way. The Montana Emergency government organized an evacuation of the area, but a lot of people weren't able to leave and some refused to. A warlord emerged in the region that loosely controls a few small towns. Their population is plurality Native American. Really though its a minor faction most of whom will likely die of cancer in a few years.

Great map! It kinda reminds me of Ephraim Ben Raphael's Stars and Stripes Forever. Have you fleshed out more of this world?
Stars and Stripes Forever was partially what inspired this scenario.

I have fleshed out parts of the rest of the world. It's a whole timeline, although I haven't written much yet. The main world powers are an Argentina-Brazil alliance and an Australia-New Zealand alliance (still under the monarchy).

Are Argentina and Brazil still fascist military dictatorships? The Argentinian one was nearing its fall and in a transitional period to democracy, but the military was still in charge. I have a bit of a pet peeve on Australia becoming a world power in so many post-nuclear war scenarios, because it was an important American ally. Sure, it was really far from Soviet borders and the main target of North America, but the Soviets would have definitely spared ICBMs and some SSBN for them. Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth IMO would all be hit, and they held around 60% of Australia population at the time. On New Zealand, I know absolutely nothing. I guess Auckland and Wellington would be nuked? It would be interesting to see how much this affects the Maori population and the consequences on New Zealand culture and race relations.

Nah NZ won't get hit. Ever seen that meme about NZ not appearing on a map? It's actually a carefully crafted psy ops defense campaign to ensure our survival in the event of a nuclear war. When the bombs start to fall, suddenly we're nowhere to be found... Then we will rise to seize our rightful place as rulers of the world, jandals marching lock step across the cinders of the Old World. The Laser Kiwi banner floating above us in the atomic wind. Peter Jackson almost blew our cover but we dealt to him too, all his movies since LOTR have been mediocre. Coincidence? No, all planned. Rings of Power recieving mediocre reception? That was us, we will bury his legacy. Taika Waititi is next, Thor Love and Thunder was just the beginning, you wait to see how we sabotage the next Star Wars series... The rest of the world will look to up and say "save us!" And we will reply "Yeah nah..."

Everyone knows NZ is actually hidden by all that Fantasy Magic

The military governments in Argentina and Brazil both delayed democratization due to the crisis (in Argentinas case the elections were going to be held like a few days after when the war started). But a few years later dissatisfaction with the military governments grew, especially with how widespread poverty had become and a series of protests and pressure from the Papacy (now headquartered in Brazil) forced the military governments to hold elections. Both have major issues with corruption, but they are democracies.

Australia and NZ are major powers because they weren't part of the war. I wanted to keep the war limited in scale.

We feared aliens and climate change and gamma-ray bursts, fleeing from a death we believed would one day come. But just as most murders are committed by one against one's own family, the threat to humanity was humanity. Sometimes, I think about the humans of the Great Dark Age. The ones who lived short, somber lives at the end of the third millennium. The ones whose world stopped at the sky. Who would live and die without touching the stars. How sad they must have been. How naive they were, to think the stars would fix them.

Timeline
In the early days of the third millennium, China and the United States were the world superpowers and became the first nations to settle on Mars (along with India, the East African Union, and the Arab League). During the later parts of the millennium, when many parts of Earth became inhospitable or impoverished, South America and Scandinavia rose to the spotlight.

2088 - Artemis (later Zhikád), the first permanent colony on Mars, is established.

2212 - The first asteroid is purposefully smashed into Mars, beginning a long and arduous terraforming process. In preparation for this, all Martian settlements are abandoned.

23rd to 27th century - Mars is terraformed. Some see the project as a mistake, preferring to focus on repairing Earth, while others see it as the last hope for human survival. During this period of time, Martian settlement is paused, while colonies are formed on most other planets.

2391 - The generation ships Daedalus and Icarus leave the Solar System, but communication with Daedalus is eventually lost.

2523 - The first settlers from Icarus arrive on Kanaloa, forming the settlement of Ranginui (later shortened to Rangi).

2629 - Mars becomes just barely fit for human settlement. Although the terraforming process is far from over, Artemis is reopened as the capital of a new Mars.

2796 to 2803 - After terraforming is halted due to economic crises on Earth, Martian colonies fight for independence in the Elysian War. Martian terrorists bomb major cities on Earth in order to create an entirely self-sufficient Mars.

2803 to 3177 - Following the Elysian War, humanity descends into her Great Dark Age, three centuries of unparalleled economic, technological, and cultural decline. Space travel comes to a halt, and life expectancy on Earth declines from 95 to 70. Due to faulty terraforming, some regions of independent Mars become uninhabitable. Meanwhile, Kanaloa’s wealth grows.
3177 - After a sixty-year journey, the starship Shashanka returns from Kanaloa with incredible riches. This kickstarts the Age of Exodus, finally inspiring humanity to take to the stars.

3244 - Valian inventor Suraj Bhate invents the Indra Drive, a compact spaceship engine with the ability to travel 15% light speed, tripling previous records.

3555 - The first humans step foot on Amalur, what would later become Lintukoto. Tokipera, the first major city on the planet, is founded.

3774 - A Martian woman named Safa Boker (3730-3774) is the first person to undergo Uplifting, to incredibly negative effects. The destruction caused by this event led to a lengthy freeze in the advancement of Uplifting technology.

3795 to 3978 - The lifespan of Tarpāna Vanahati, a Kanaloa-born prophet who went on to inspire the most worshipped religion in the Milky Way.
4189 to 4280 - The Long War is fought between many planets on the frontier of human settlement. After the war, neutral Earth becomes a place for those displaced by the war to settle. Twizzy LeStrange of the Spacer’s League kills billions.

4202 - The Xibalba-based Cizin Spaceflight releases the Tlaloc Drive, an engine capable of traveling 50% light speed.

4240 - Lintukoto, a backwoods planet, becomes an accidental haven for oppressed groups caught in the crossfire of the war. Chori Koskinen (4177-4283) captains a starship of Finns to the planet.

4280 - The Spacer’s League is disbanded and the Zana Conventions are enacted, establishing interplanetary law and ending the Long War.

4314 to 4321 - The Solar Spring occurs. After the Long War, many of the poor immigrants who settled in the Solar System found themselves discriminated against by the initial inhabitants. The racial and ethnic lines of Earth were complicated, though mainly divided between the “natives,” who had remained on Earth after the Age of Exodus, and the new “arrivals.” These tensions led to revolution, in which the lower classes of all ethnicities temporarily overthrew the elites. Echoes from the Solar Spring would lead to the formation of the Solar Syndicate two centuries later.

4565 - The authoritarian socialist Solar Syndicate is formed after the nations of the Solar System unite. The SS would later form the Homeland Alliance. The new nation begins some very ambitious terraforming projects, rebuilding Earth into a vehicle of resource production.

4767 - Solar scientists invent the Thunderbird, a warp drive capable of traveling 99.9% light speed. Later versions (up to the Thunderbird VI) are more compact and energy-efficient, but the light speed barrier remains intact.
5th millennium - The Solar Syndicate attempts to terraform Venus. This process, although successful, costs the SS incredible amounts of resources and manpower.

5331 to 5371 - Construction of Tuorniyork, the largest building in the Universe. Though built for a billion inhabitants, it eventually sees up to 25 billion.

55th to 58th centuries - Lintukotan Golden Age.

5555 - Formation of the Golden Union in Keltakeida, Lintukoto. The solid-gold Ilmari Palace is constructed to house parliament.

5570 - Collapse of the Holy Christian Empire. Dissolves into Mernaro, Francia, and some independent systems.

5596 - The final human emperor of the Hundred Planets League dies, succeeded by the AI Xila.

5886 - Faster-than-light communication is discovered (eventually allowing speeds of up to 2x light speed), but transporting living beings remains impossible. All humans who make the “warp” come out on the other side dead, deformed, or insane.

5981 to 5989 - The Farspace War is fought between the Golden Union and the Chiyau, a small sect of hyper-powered, nomadic aliens. The Golden Union prevails, and when the Chiyau retreat they leave behind what might be the key to FTL travel.

5992 - Venus is formally opened to public settlement. News of the event reaches Lintukoto at around the same time the Universal War begins.

5996 - The Battle of Osiris occurs between the Homeland Alliance and the Golden Union, kickstarting the Universal War.

We're all just primates with narcissism. Who are we to outrun extinction?
