  1. Prussia annexes Danish West India in 1864

At the end of 17th Century (or was it the very early 18th?) Prussia did actually lease part of the island from Denmark for a short while. It's hard to see Bismarck annexing the place in 1864, like others have said he wasn't into colonies, but if for some reason he did-lets say Wilhelm I...
  2. Can Krakow Survive?

I have always been interested in mini-nations (for lack of a better word) that existed and whether they could have survived. One that has always interested me is the Free City of Krakow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_City_of_Krak%C3%B3w A token 'independent' Poland post-1815 as it were...
  3. No Battle of Britain

Thanks Steve...had forgotten about the fighter sweeps...might need to work on plan b;)
  4. Small nations, small consequences

How about Nevis of St Kitts and Nevis? Nevis does have a secession movement and there have been votes on it in the past.
  5. No Battle of Britain

Does this mean there might be enough aircraft to send out to the Far East? I seem to remember that the RAF plans had been to have something like 300 modern aircraft by the end of 1940 but reinforcements didn't arrive due to the needs of the BoB. This could mean the plans are achieved to a...
  6. Australia at war with Indonesia, the US and the UK stays out, consequences?

I think it's going to be a problem to have the UK not come to the Aussie's aid. Unless they have done something so utterly daft to make it seem like they provoked an attack or started the war. Do also bear in mind Brunei, an Indonesia that has defeated Australia might be the sort of Indonesia...
  7. Is it possible to have a German minor state as a minor colonial power

Hanover did, prior to the Napoleonic Wars, have a couple of regiments 'on loan' to the HEIC. Perhaps this could lead to a small German presence in India, similar to Denmarks?
  8. Korea, Viking Style

I must agree, the turtle ships were extremely advanced for their time. The issue you need to deal with is the Kings of Korea who tended to bump off any underling who got too powerful or did too well. As soon as a subject starts to excel as a 'viking', the King will have it in for them.
  9. Different kind of aircraft wank: Airplanes that should have not entered service

I have a memory of the idea that the FAA was offered an earlier Seafire than they got but went for the Fulmar instead. If no Fulmar they might go for the Seafire a bit earlier after all.
  10. Different kind of aircraft wank: Airplanes that should have not entered service

What about the Whirlwind and Comet? Neither were successes, would the British in WW2 have been better served if resources had been better spent on alternative designs? Same applies to post-war Civilian airlines, would it have been better to have spent more time designing a better civilian jet?
  11. Different kind of aircraft wank: Airplanes that should have not entered service

True but I wonder if we could have got to Lancaster without going via Manchester (which sounds a good lesson for life:))
  12. Different kind of aircraft wank: Airplanes that should have not entered service

I'm with you on the Battle but wasn't the Defiant a success at a night fighter? How about the Manchester? It may have been modified and become the Lancaster but as itself it was a failure.
  13. Different kind of aircraft wank: Airplanes that should have not entered service

Well, I'd say just about anything the FAA was using in 1939 other than the Swordfish :)
  14. Cultural effects of a nuclear war.

I was wondering about the recreating and though perhaps the opposite might happen? Perhaps the war is seen as year zero and the desire is to create something new and different than the 'old world' that ended in such death and destruction and general ruination of the world?
